ARC-12** vs 3ware 9590SE-*ML

Good Morning,

I am building a high end 5u for personal storage, it will be run off an opteron 150, gig of ram, and 10-15 SATA 1.5 MaxlineIII 300gb drives. The controller must be PCI-E

I have to decide on the controller for these, i would like the highest read/write rates but with some degree of reliability (no raid0). So either raid5 or raid6.

My options have been narrowed down to the ARC-12** or 3ware 9590SE-*ML series, the 3ware is significantly cheaper, but it doesnt appear to have any less specs. However, i cant find a single review of it out there.

For my needs does anyone have an experiences or suggestions (i did look at other brands, but they all seems to have horrible performance for some reason).

The specs are almost duplicate though, whats the difference, i know the areca is great, but the 3ware actually advertises more throughput (800MB/s vs 350), which with 15 drives i might actually hit.
 
The Areca card without a doubt. Just remember, just because 3ware says there card is faster doesn't make it true. Areca cards are putting down better scores than 3wares matching product.
 
3Ware is utter crap. They attempt firmware lock on all drives (meaning you cannot use the drives on anything but a 3Ware,) and their performance is utter shit period. I can move data by hand faster than a 9550 with a pair of 10KRPMs in RAID1, and that's not joking. Hell, I have an HPT370 UDMA100 with 5400RPM drives beat down a 9500.
 
I own an Areca card personally and we also have one at work. Although the one at work is having hardware problems its worked great under the conditions its in.
