April DC Commandos

Thank you for the list Sazan!

Most of those I try to say for monthly pushes, however BOINC is usually easier and thus they get left behind. I will definitely be looking into that list for the following months.

Nice work on Majestic-12 by Razor_FX_II and McCoy. We moved up a spot today, and we're a little over a month away from another overtake.

NFS@home seems to be a real memory pig. I'm running it on one box along with Yoyo@home to balance out the WU memory usage, but it still ate up all my free memory and started swapping to disk. I found that setting BOINC to use 70% of memory and unchecking the "keep suspended tasks in memory" option results in about 80% memory usage and 95% CPU usage.

Looks like we're still on track to break into the top 200 in Einstein@home.

I basically have one-and-a-half sets of that in my SR-2; it's good RAM. I never thought I'd be tempted to go to 12GB on my 980X boxen, though. There are several BOINC projects where having at least 1GB per thread would come in handy.

Well after looking at Yoyo and NFS server status, I don't think Yoyo will be able to keep up with the amount of work units Majestic-12 servers are going to run through.
I will ask Alex but I'm sure his servers have lots of memory, so if everyone is in an agreement and we can help with the push on NFS here in the next week or so I will let Alex know that this will be the project and after we decide when we will be pushing on it.
I can put x4 quads on it. Any one else have a time frame that would be good for a NFS push for lets say a week or so?

Edit: I'm thinking start next Monday, April 21st and go [H]ard for a week or until the end of April, but I will need to confirm with Alex when he is ready to join in, but I would like to be already hitting it [H]ard before he comes in with his servers.
The amount of memory used for work units can be selected in the NFS preferences, you can limit the work unit to 500mb so you don't get any of the 1gig units.
If we can push total team score up over the 2 million mark that would give us 100+ DC-Vault points.

Razor did you mean Monday April 25th? Just making sure Im on the same page!

I've got a couple Aqua WUs to clear out here but I'll get some NFS going too. I think it sounds like a great idea. Hopefully my 4GB of RAM can keep up! Another 100+ Vault points in a week sounds awesome!

I'll switch a few over to NFS as well. My i7 is still running OGR-27 though because I am trying to help out RIUM+ with that one.

Your right metallicafan, thanks for the correction - Monday the 25th. (Sorry need more sleep.)
As it seems I have some support here I'll let Alex know that NFS will be the project to boost.
Thanks Commandos !

Msg to Alex:
"Alex, I know you have a lot going on at the moment and if its not a good time then thats alright and maybe we could do this another time, but if you are still interested in helping with a boost, our team will be starting a push at NFS @ Home Monday April 25th and running until May 1st that we think would be a suitable project that meets your requirements and has enough work available to be able to keep up with our push and the added pressure of your boost.

1. Memory usage can be limited to 0.5 GB/work unit that run on 1 CPU core. (change options in NFS account preferences)
2. Work units runtime length is approximately 1 hour on 3.5Ghz core.
3. Heat generation is moderate - not extreme.
4. Work units are in a quorum of 1 so results will be immediate.
5. Team goal is to achieve a total score of 2 million + in NFS during this push to help better our position in the DC-Vault.

"Ok, this sounds good! We are running some analysis on cluster right now but it should finish by Tue I think, then we'll give a full whack on that project for 24 hours hopefully it will be visible

Be aware that the last stable release of Boinc Software is: boinc_6.12.22

Just noticed Enigma@home is down. There's a message over on the DC Vault forums that it will pulled on May 5 if it's not back up and running.

Docking@home is also down, but it's just temporary (AC failure in the server room, and the server apparently got borked).

Tomorrow is the day Majestic-12's cluster will be joining in on NFS. This should be a very very nice 1 day boost.
We will see what a server cluster has over the [H]ard|OCP Commandos. Good luck Alex!:D

It looks like Enigma@home is back up (at least their website, I didnt try to grab any WU's yet). http://www.enigmaathome.net/

Good to hear that help is on the way in NFS - although i think we have a quite impressive week going! I just wish my i7 had enough RAM to run 8 NFS threads. :(

It would seem that we may need some more CUDA crunching to stay afloat in Primegrid. I've been kicking around finally grabbing a new card. Maybe a Ti 550?

Already up to 36,557 on the project page. Nice ramp-up! I set my Enigma preferences to only get 500mb as Razor mentioned and it's helped a lot.

It's good that Enigma is back, but it looks like all their issues might not be resolved yet.

I'm probably going to shut down some GPUs for the summer, but I can probably put some back on Primegrid after the Einstein push is over.

Wow. Thats quite a lot of horsepower! A big thanks to Alex and the M12 project for donating some muscle.

Majestic-12 put in ~280,000 points into NFS for us in 24 hours.
We have met our goal of 2 million+ for the team and moved up 6 positions since the beginning of the NFS push each worth ~22x6 for a total of about 132 DC-Vault points.
Very nice push everyone!:D

I'm thinking we keep pushing on NFS. The top 15 is within reach, and maybe even higher. It might take me a couple days to switch over from Einstein.

I see we gained six spots in GIMPS today. I completed three of the nine LL WUs I've been crunching for the past month or so, so there should be further gains as the rest complete over the next week. I'm going to keep two boxen on GIMPS, but I'm going to change which boxen they are.

Does NFS require a lot of memory?

Does NFS require a lot of memory?
In your NFS account preferences you can select work units with varying memory requirements.
There may not be work available for some work unit types.

Run only the selected applications:
- lasieved - rarely used so work is rarely available, only for small numbers: (yes/no)
- lasievee - work nearly always available, uses up to 0.5 GB memory: (yes/no)
- lasievef - occasionally used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory: (yes/no)

One of these days, I'll have to get 24GB (or more) for my SR-2.

Just want to add a bit to Razor's memory explanation. Those memory requirements are for EACH core/thread that NFS is running on. So my X6 is using 6 GB memory just for NFS and then 2+ GB for windows.

Yeah, I realize that from my previous BOINC experiences thus why I need 24GB or more for my SR-2.

I definitely recommend unchecking the "lasievef - occasionally used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory" option in the NFS@home preferences, if you don't have tons of RAM. It makes things run much more smoothly.
