Applying AS5 to a GPU

I’ve read different things on different sites. Some say to do the same as a CPU, with a small BB-sized amount in the middle and twist a few degrees. Others say to spread a thin coat over the entire GPU surface with a razor blade or other. What did you guys do?

I’ll be using an HR-03 on my 7900GS, and Thermalright’s site says to put some (of their stock TIM) on the HSF too. I think that would be overkill with AS5 though.

I put AS5 on my 7950GT with my finger in a plastic bag condom, smeared it over the core in a thin layer and attached the heatsink. Worked good for me.

I use an old credit card to spread a thin layer on the cpu or gpu or whatever chip .I only apply a thin coat on the chip and then put on the heatsink - I never apply on both .
Always worked fine.

I put a small drop in the middle of the die and let the pressure of the heatsink to smear it out evenly :)

I'll recommend against using as5 on a gpu...last I knew, gpu cores didnt have IHS's and thus little capacitors and such were exposed, meaning the smallest drop on one of those could fry your card. Perhaps ceramique or similar could be used there instead...

I put a dot and then I put my finger in a ziplock bag and smeared it all around.
However, I seemed to have loss a bit of AS5 during the process because it got onto the bag.
As a result, I don't know if I used the correct amount.

My GPU was GTS 8800 640MB

I've had the best results with putting the dot in the middle and letting the heatsink pressure spread it.
