Applications Dual Core Compatible?

Hey all, I'm building a computer for my uncle. He is going to be running a couple programs, Cakewalk and ProTools. I'm not exactly sure what versions of each, but recent ones I am going to assume. Does anyone know if these programs can make use of dual core architecture? I looked through the website and it doesn't mention anything... also are most audio and video encoding programs dual core enable now?

On a side note, I was thinking of going with 2GB of RAM, is 1 GIG enough?

I don't know the answer to your question, as I have not used those programs.

But, as a heads up, with the AMD Dual Core technology, programs do not have to be writen for "dual core", simply multiprocessor systems.

So the question is not whether or not it can use "dual core", but whether or not it can take advantage of a multiprocessor system (SMP capable).

I'd recommend the 2GB RAM. I've heard this from a music buddy of mine, that especially doing multi-track mixing and playing back the previews can task the system memory hard.
