I am running server 2008 R2 and i would like to run my application as a service so when the computer starts, the program runs in the background.

I have installed and configured the program to my liking.

I installed the WAIK for 2008 R2. Used the sc.exe create command to create a new service with my applications executable as the path.

But the program will not start! What am i doing wrong? I even tried giving it user logon permissions of a domain administrator and it still wont start.

This works perfectly fine on 2003. Did something change?

What kind of program is this? Does it have any UI? If it has UI, it shouldn't be a service.

The program is uTorrent. It has a web interface.
I can have it start with windows automatically but it only starts when a user logs in. I dont want my server to auto login just so utorrent can run.

I had the same issue, so I fixed it by setting windows to auto login and then created a shortcut in the Startup folder with the following command.

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

This way windows boots and then logs a user in, then immediately locks the workstation. This is also helpful because Folding also requires a user to login.

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Interesting. May do that myself. The Spyder3 requires you to log in first before it'll load up it's software and load it's color profile into the video card. Will see if this alleviates this issue :D
