See “"Triangulation" infected dozens of iPhones belonging to employees of Moscow-based Kaspersky
Spyware craft is interesting, from NSO Group's Pegasus to Candiru ..”

“In its communication to affected users, Apple stressed the sensitive nature of its threat identification methods, cautioning that divulging additional details could potentially aid attackers in evading future detection. Apple has also made a notable shift in its language since last year, opting to describe these incidents as "mercenary spyware attacks" instead of the previously used term "state-sponsored" attacks.”

“Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-, This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously,

These were the messages sent to journalists, opposition leaders, and various political/religious figures in those countries.

Didn't Apple fix Triangulation? Or is this because people don't update to the newest iOS version in fear it'll slow down their phone?

Because the military contractor that develops and sells the Triangulation package puts serious work in keeping it updated and functional.
Weren't they taken to court over this? I guess when you operate in Israel then laws don't effect you. At the very least didn't Apple stop making phones with undisclosed registers? It does sound like Apple put in a back door into their devices. Of course we banned Kaspersky from the US who discovered Triangulation because Russia bad but US good.

I don't know about a back door, the NSO group though spends a lot of energy to keep that kit active for Android and iOS.
Amnesty International operates a suite for detecting and removing it from your devices but it doesn't stop it from being reinfected, Apple and Google routinely patch it out but like all cat-and-mouse games NSO always finds a way back in.
Apple and Google have active lawsuits against the NSO group but it's going nowhere in the courts.
The Triangulation attack on Kapersky was interesting because they didn't discover it, I mean they discovered they were being attacked with it, but who was their attacker?
Pegasus and Triangulation are spread via a direct message through a messaging service, or call service, such as WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage, Messanger, etc.
It's not just something floating around out there, it is targeted and the attacker needs to be looking for you.
It's also expensive as hell...
