Apple Warns Against Jailbreaking

one of the reasons that iOS has so much less malware than Android is the lack of sideloading by default.

I have no facts to back this up, but I tend to disagree. The difference is the quality of the app store. Apple checks submissions thoroughly, and Google is just starting to catch up in that regard. Their app store has been a wild west, which is the problem. You could easily have a tightly controlled, safe app store like Apple, yet still allow sideloading. And I bet you'd not have many problems with viruses, since the masses would still use the app store.

For those relating piracy to jailbreaking and the plight of developer income. While I'm in favour of legal protections and social pressures pushing in the direction of fair compensation for developers, the end users' computing freedoms (a la Stallman) should never be revoked in this effort. The ends do not justify the means; it should be freedoms first, then all other considerations. It's also yet to be demonstrated that DRM of any kind has actually curbed piracy in just about any market. Content is always broken free and distributed in the clear by one guy, and anyone who wants it, takes it. The honest people meanwhile are held back by stupid inconveniences like no sideloading, or HDCP, inability to format shift, backup, skip previews, etc. There is no morality-based defense for DRM in my opinion, and definitely not when it's at the OS level restricting overall freedom on the platform.

Have you tried PLEX? It is, IMHO, much much much better than XBMC. It's also multiplatform , and now has a web based client as well!

Did you read what I posted? I don't want an app that requires a "helper" app just to play a movie from a NAS. XBMC will allow you to do just that. I have yet to find another app that does this, and at this point stopped looking since i have an app thatworks great. I created a low power NAS for a reason and don't want to require my main system to be running just to stream a video to the iPad.

Yeah I have tested Jailbreak on my I.Phone. It really disappointed me when battery consumption came to high after installation of Jailbreak and I had to charge my mobile again and again.
