Does anyone here have any experiences with Apple Ibooks? I need a notebook for school. I've noticed that there were quite a few people around campus with these little Ibooks. Are they any good? I was looking at the following configuration:1GHz PowerPC G4
512K L2 cache @ 1GHz 14-inch TFT Display 1024x768 resolution
256MB DDR266 SDRAM 40GB Ultra ATA drive Combo Drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 32MB DDR video memory AirPort Extreme ready. Is this any good? I don't really know much/anything about macs. I've been looking for a good centrino notebook. How does this compare?
 
if you do a little searching in this thread there are several dealing with your question...ultimately it will be what you are using it for...if it is general usage then an iBook will be fine (see my sig) but don't expect to play games on it like Doom 3, HL2 or UT04...for games have a nice desktop rig instead....most software is available for both platforms in one form or another...I would recomend you go to your local apple reseller/store and play with one and see how you like it
 
ooooo perty. i really want a mac, but dont have the money. i might get an ipod soon.
 
iBooks are great bang for the buck as far as a good mac notebook comes. You won't be let down by one. I would advise an upgrade in RAM to at least 512 though.
 
If you're not a gamer then macs are great. But if you game other than say, older FPS like Medal of Honor and Warcraft 3, an iBook isn't going to do the job very well for gaming.
 
Iam wanting a PowerBook to take over my PC Desk rig i have now! Games on the PC have died down and i don't play as much now. Its mainly Music and Doing Videos from my Camcorder iam into now! Hence why i bought a Xbox!
 
FYI the screen resolution of the 14" over the 12" is the same, so you gain no desktop space. With that in mind I would get the 12" like I got. :)
