DigiTimes says that Apple is planning to postpone Leopard until October so that the new OS supports Windows Vista through an integrated version of its Boot Camp.

The sources pointed out that the launch delay is not due to software design problems with Leopard but instead is attributed to Apple's plan to have its new OS support Windows Vista through an integrated version of Boot Camp.

So they are going to delay their much hyped OS that will save the world for 4 months just so it can work with Vista... I think not. Sounds like there are more serious issues.

I'd say ship and and just add vista support via an update. O well I'll be interested in seeing it when it comes out.

Firstly, it's a rumor so we all know how that goes.

But to delay it for Vista? Doubtful. Apple want's OS X to stand on it's own; using it as a catalyst to attract windows users doesn't make any sense.
Apple's already "stated" that there's no reason to use Vista and you should be using OS X instead. (In various commercials anyhow).

I don't think leopard is ready for debut just yet, various developer rumblings on mailing lists have me pretty convinced on that. A delay I feel is probable, but I don't think October is realistic... that's REALLY far out there.

Thats what i'm thinking also_Otherwsise they would probably just release an update that adds support for Vista. The fact that they moved the entire product back to me shows that there is something more major going on and they are just trying to use Microsoft as an excuse.

so they're blaming MS for their OS not being ready yet then? lol thats hilarious

As far as rumors go it seems like a very non-apple thing to do and smells of bullcrap. If they want to scapegoat ms, vista right now is pretty low hanging fruit.. but to use it as a delay excuse for their own software release, that's just foolishness.

You didn't say it but they're basically delaying Leopard because they want the integrated version of Boot Camp to work nice with Vista. But you say that Leopard is not really ready in general to be released at the time they wanted to release it regardless of Boot Camp. So basically instead of Apple just saying "Its not ready," they're saying, "We want Vista to work with Boot Camp." Its a cop out then if its not ready PERIOD. Well maybe not a cop out, but I think its kinda stupid to say "Oh its done but..." when the testers and developers say otherwise.

Apple never said anything official regarding this.

Developers are the ones saying that it's not ready, and DigiTimes is reporting this as "industry insiders," which *could* be someone at Apple, or not.

In my case, I haven't experienced the amount of "problems" other developers are experiencing (I'm sort of inactive, so I just use it to peek around what's new mainly. Haven't written a real app since 10.2).

Who cares. Anyone who buys a macbook with the intention of using it for Windows is a moron.

Alot of stuff doesn't work, some stuff is unsupported (try calling a software vendor and telling them you are running Win XP on a Mac and you are having problems with their software, good luck), and some stuff will not and can never work.

My company, with it's amazing foresight and infinite wisdom, has started ordering MacBook pro's for users to replace primary business machines. We use Cisco LEAP and also Pointsec FDE and RSA SOM with SecurID 800's. We have told the managers well over 20 times that this software doesn't work on the Mac. But they order them anyway, because, in their words and probably the echoes of thousands of users across america, "Why wouldn't it work, it's just Windows XP."

Sigh.

This story is mielda because it will take at least 3 years before there are more as many Vista users as XP users.

This is just silly:D

Vista RC2 ran on my Macbook with the current Bootcamp although not as well as XP but ran none the less.

feh:p

Whats so great about Macs anyway? Their pretty much slower and just as vunerable as windows PCs.

I didn't say windows was better, I just stated Mac isn't really all that great compared to windows lol.

Its really personal preference I supposed. But windows does have the most support which is why its better. :D

digitimes is the most unreliable rumor site on the net, nothing they say is true.

Leopard will come out at June at the latest during WWDC.
