Apple taking some shots at Facebook

Its good to finally see that Facebook is getting the press they deserve. Can't wait to see what Facebook digs up on Apple.
Maybe but here's what Tim Cook said when they challenged him on it.

"it’s time to stand up for the right to privacy—yours, mine, all of ours. Consumers shouldn’t have to tolerate another year of companies irresponsibly amassing huge user profiles, data breaches that seem out of control and the vanishing ability to control our own digital lives."

Apple is claiming they don't store or share their data and based on the long list of complaints against them from law offices and government agencies about their noncooperative nature and the lack of information they had to give when they did cooperate I am somewhat inclined to believe them.

I'm not sure I believe him, he doesn't allow his own daughter to use an iPhone.

...... Tim Cook doesn't have kids...
I thought all of his customers were his children?...I kid. I must have mixed it up with the Steve Jobs story.

Bill Gates is a friggin Nutbar...

I would not believe Apple one bit that they care about your privacy, they are just doing what Google is trying to do, stop everyone else from collecting your data, but they still will. Was it not Apple that was caught using 3rd parties to do its translation work for something and that company had access to private content from users..

(Representative image) Apple is allegedly using 5,400 data trackers on the iPhone to share upto 1.5GB of data with third partiesReuters

  • Apple iPhones are sending as much as 1.5GB of tracking data to third parties according to a report published by Geoffery Fowler in the Washington Post.
  • If the allegations hold true, it undercuts Apple’s key selling pitch of offering its users unparalleled privacy and data security.
  • The report estimates that there are around 5,400 unwanted data trackers on the iPhone which send out data.
Apple’s key selling pitch has always been the unparalleled privacy it offers its users. And, it has been shouting it out on the rooftops. During CES 2019, its huge billboard said, “ What happens on your iPhone stays on your iPhone.”

Like all well-publicised truths, this might turn out to be a lie — and it’s not the first time its been called into question. Last year, Apple had to close a privacy loophole in its system that allowed third party apps to gather data; while preaching the importance of privacy during Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal.

But those were 3'rd party apps that were bypassing Apple's security measures due to a loophole in their permission menu, which they have since corrected. They later shored up a few other holes by changing the default state of Limit Add Tracking from Off to On, which actually got them sued from Niki and a bunch of others as they could no longer collect data from Apple iOS users unless they manually turned that back off.

It's interesting watching the heavy weights battle it out. Do any of them really have your best interest in mind? As for the children of the actual people involved, I don't envy them. They are major targets and live a very different life from the one I have enjoyed. If I were their parent I would be overly protective as well. The Gate's kids seem pretty well adjusted as a result. I picked them because they were mentioned and they are fairly easy to read about.

They might as well be tobacco companies, for all the harm they know they are doing to their customers

In the 70s and 80s there was a bunch of this shit between chemical companies as well.

I love to see the crappiest companies taking cheap shots at one another.

Apple is being rather tame about making their case. They're still wearing their gloves, while Facebook's dishonest ad campaign is fighting dirty.

Apple could stand to make a fuller case against Facebook and other data-thieves (Microsoft, Google, etc)

- how much Facebook tracking slows-down browsing, how much it adds to data-usage, how it affects energy consumption / battery life
- blowing-apart the lie that people need to allow their private lives to be comprehensively spied-on otherwise they're hurting business-owners
- the lie that spying-on people, harvesting and selling their data is a legitimate business in the first place
- the danger posed by all harvested data ending-up in the government's hands (and it does all go to the government) which has meticulous virtual profiles of everyone and so can monitor and manipulate the public with that data, resulting in a propaganda society rather than a free one
- the offence that companies are stealing people's electricity and making unlicensed commercial usage of people's devices

And more.

I block as much of it as possible on the network, but it seems to grow faster than not. The amount of denied traffic being sent to FB and Google servers is pretty staggering. Makes me wonder though how much I have still missed.
