Apple Store: Forerunner = Thief

No video? Didn't happen. Perfect first video to introduce your new blog site. Sucks if it did happen but it could have been a big white guy or yellow guy and the same thing could have happened.
 
Apple is a lousy company. I have never had a positive customer service experiance at any of their stores, especially if you know what you want and don't want a demo.

Maybe they get paid by the demo?
 
Had this happen to me as well at a Circuit City a couple years ago. Knew what I wanted exactly, didn't need to "demo", buy accessories, or discuss the "extended warranty" for it. Just wanted to pay someone and get the fuck out. No dice, and no sale.
 
Well that's a new one. Let's see I'm going to steal something from your store. First I have to get the attention of the employees who are busy playing with eachother so they can help me. Now there's two people who have a good description of me. Then I ask for a specific item, wait by the register which I know will be the one place, if any, that will have a camera on it. Then I make some conversation with the employees thus giving an even better description of me. Then I turn around to notice the security guards ready to pounce. Yeah, what a clever thief I would be.

The thing that is so surprising isn't the treatment, it's the fact that he still went back to an Apple store after receiving at the minimum rude and at worst racist treatment. I guess you have to get Steve Jobs to actually shoot an Apple owner in the head before they question the cult. I wouldn't go to any Apple store till I felt the situation was properly addressed if I were in his position.
 
This guy totally jumped to the wrong conclusions, the race card is so easily pulled today unfortunately.

I've had 3 people try to cause physical harm to me, all were black, damn right I do some profiling.

So a couple of rude people in a store represent an entire company? If that was the case no one would go to ANY store because you're going to find rude people regardless of where you are. And for all you know there could have been a robbery from that store a week ago so people are more alert, etc. Hard to have an educated opinion from one side. Just another anti Apple post from [H], although it is a little fun reading all of the stupid posts that come up in these threads. Goes to show PC users can't think for themselves and let HardOCP do it for them. ;)

You make some good points... if all thieves actually had greater than average IQ's and actually planned out thefts before hand. Unfortunately, most thieves are not as smart as you, and the ones that are smarter work on Wall Street. ;-)

On a side note could it be that the Apple store has to employ people of different races.
If Halo could run on a Mac it could have been a tie in. (infected by the flood!) But being a Microsoft product I can see why this term was pick to mean something bad.

Racism? No I don't think so, he just looked into it to much. Hell anyone could walk into an Apple store dressed like that (white or black), located in a upper class neighborhood and also get profiled like that, nothing new really.
I just think he sensationalized it way to much to kick off his new site. Just my.02 cents.
 
You'd think the Apple employees wouldn't have to say it outloud to anyone, and they all just have some emergency "help there's a black man" switch they can discretely push

And yet they make black iphones, black macbooks (granted the $100 extra for the macbook is a WTF moment)?

I'm not defending them on this apparent store policy for a second, the guy knew what he wanted and bought one, he didn't need to be shown a demo, touch it, or be pushed into the sale, maybe that caught the sales person off guard, they were expecting a lost sheep or something?

What are you talking about? The man went to a store and bought stuff. I'd imagine if said person was in a wheelchair he'd have bought stuff too? Pretty sure the general consensus is that there was nothing racist or even overtly rude about how this customer was handled. It was all in his head. He wanted to see people treating him like shit because he's black so that's exactly what he saw. Reality notwithstanding. The man looks for things to play the race card on by his own admission. He is a bag of shit.

That's a complete cop out. There's no way that Apple stores line the gates every time a big fat guy walks in the store to buy something.

I don't know what was going on, but if what the guy said happened actually happened (and like Steve, I found the guy reasonable and believable), Apple needs bring on the wrath Jobs on the employees at that store.

I must say have a black employee check him out was a nice touch :rolleyes:

I SAID, If I were HIM I wouldn't go to an ANY APPLE store until the situation was resolved. It's a singular thing and if the company is so concerned about the "experience" this kind of treatment wouldn't be allowed.

thing is the employees should do it in a more relaxed manner that would stress a customer out.

Seems most of you didn't watch the video. He's not coming out and saying it's racism, he was asking wtf happened and not ruling it out. There's a pretty distinct difference. It was certainly still making a judgement based not on fact but on perception and assumption, which is technically what racism is at it's core. There's a more subtle way of doing business and protecting your assets Apple, then again it sounds like everyone else just reacted to that one persons bad call.

I watched it and whether it was racism or not the treatement he received was wrong. Now the assumption is that he's relaying to us an accurate account of his experience. All we have to go on is what we saw in the video so that's the only context we can respond to.

In the end since none of us have first hand information, this is really just an academic exercise.

The end of racism will come when people are apathetic towards race - when no one really gets overly emotional about if their great grandparents were from Ireland or Africa. Tall order when you have peckerwood crackers wearing hoods on their hearts and minorities seeing racism in retail store best practices. Racism is such a waste of calories and I hope we can get past it.

I agree with your sentiments but if all racism were gone from the earth (lol) it would just lead to something else being a divider among peoples. The loons who get all bent out of shape because somebody prays to a different make believe entity will come out of the woodwork and take center stage in the US...just an example.
