Apple has released the latest version of iTunes, grab it if you need it. The iTunes Store now offers songs without DRM protection as well.

Despite the software update, the Apple iTunes Store itself does not show any DRM-Free music currently available for purchase. The DRM-Free launch will likely occur later this morning (Wed, May 30th). From the iTunes Help, it appears you will be able to upgrade your existing songs to the iTunes Plus (DRM Free) version.

Does this include the security fix they just released?
I would guess so. I think people are more likely to download a new version of iTunes than Quicktime by itself, especially the windows users. DRM free music is good. Better quality files minus DRM would be even better. I still don't like the quality. Only on a few songs have I found the audio quality to be tolerable. It kinda sucks because they do get some artists from time to time that are not avialable through the usual media outlets selling physical CDs. I like my true CD quality music. This is good news though. I know plenty of whiners that complained and complained and complained about DRM and it's restrictions when it never really affected them and they didn't buy alot of music to begin with. Now lets see if people actually buy more music when the DRM restrictions are lifted.

Any new features with this release, or is this just a maintenance deploy?

So does this mean that you can possibly buy any track from itunes drm free or just thoes from emi or who ever it was that agreed to sell songs drm free?

This could get interesting with amazon set to seel drm free later on this year, although the quality isn't a real problem for me with songs at emusic and audio lunch box, I never really like the sound of mp4 files but I'll be a happy dumb consumer to snap up drm files from my bed.

You do realize the DRM free songs offer better quality (256kbps), right?
I was at work quickly browsing and didn't notice that part and was happy to see that this evening when I logged in at home. I'm upgrading now to 7.2 to see how much better these tracks sound. The 128kbs files weren't terrible but they weren't great either. At 256kbs they may just be acceptable for me. Have you tried any of the higher bit rate tracks yet?
