Apple has released several updates for QuickTime to address eight security vulnerabilities. The flaws expose both Mac and Windows users to attack so make sure you patch your box if you use QuickTime.

By enticing a user to open a malicious QuickTime movie, an attacker could trigger a buffer overflow, which could provide remote access to the compromised computer. For this reason, Apple has labeled the new QuickTime patch "serious" and is recommending that all QuickTime users -- on both Mac and Windows platforms -- install it.

Wish someone would come out with an iTunes Lite (sans Quicktime) and a small Firefox Quicktime plug-in. I really don't want to install the full-blown Quicktime.

Don't use it, don't need it.

Try Quicktime Alternative.

Using quicktime is as shitty as having to look at the best peanut butter/jelly sandwich for the rest of your life and not be able to eat it. That bad.

But how is this possible? Macs don't have security holes. Steve Jobs, using his powers of exterme software kung-fu prevents such things via the tao of the single button mouse, security through elemental simplicity! If this is possbile then does that mean the mothership will not come to take the faithful away to the Mac Store at the center of the galaxy?

My biggest problem with QuickTime is the same problem I have with all of Apple's products:

Bought QuickTime Pro version X.XX ....90 days later, QuickTime Pro version Y.YY is released.

Damn.

So I upgrade.

Rinse.

Repeat.

Get sick of it and quit upgrading.

Slip, fall and bump my head...buy QuickTime Pro again...just in time for QuickTime Pro with HD support to come out...need to cough up cash again...

dammit.

I have no idea why I am surprised, Apple brags about coming out with 5 operating systems in 5 years and charging users for it each time. By the time you get everything working from your last upgrade, you find out you will soon become a second class citizen if you don't have the next <insert big cat name> O.S. and you must upgrade.

Bought a nano....2 months later...the iPod video comes out....wait 6 months later, a new nano and video comes out...etc. etc. etc.

ARG!!!
