Ok while searching eBay as I often do for mac stuff, I came accross this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4606&item=5102528911&rd=1
If you check this you will see that it is a Tablet PC model of the PowerBook 5300 that was licensed by Apple to be made apparently jointly with someone else (Thats what he says) And flat out it is booting OS 8 so it must be a mac. There were no clones at that time so all I can say is... GOD I WANT ONE!!!!! They look so cool!!! Since these are becoming the latest rage I think a G3 or G4 version rereleased would be very neat and give more options for users looking for the tablet experiance. All I can say is that I would love to buy this tablet....but I am not going to spend 300 to get it. What do you guys think of this actually exsiting and about the product it self lol. :D

That thing is 7 years old you know. I doubt it can run any of the existing Mac applications. I think that you could use it as an picture viewer. Hang it up on a wall, and make it perform a slideshow of pictures. Other than that, i really don't know what it can be used for

It would be cool, it could play nintendo, do basic internet and word processing, email, IM warcraft lol. Its nothing grand but it is really really neat!

I looked into this a little and I don't think this is something that Apple actually made but was more of a conversion of a PB5300 to a table style...I have seen similar things done to ibooks for severly disabled people so they could interact with people

edit: I just checked the link in the ebay listing and sure enough it is for disabled people and not mfg'ed by Apple but between Assistive Technology and Frogdesign...they are just using the 5300 as their platform

wait so there are iBooks that are like this? Do we have any information on them? I would like to see aboutgetting my hands on one esp if it would come in like a G3 900 or G4 1ghz

I have no idea where to find any of them and IIRC they were only in the clam shell variety so they are the old series iBooks..not the white ones..the other thing you would need to look at is the price because I can assure you it wouldn't cost just a little more than the regular iBook does as there is a LOT of work that has to go into something like this..I would recomend doing a google and see what you come up with

maybe if they were doing better and not always struggling apple would have had an established line of tablet pc's and pda's running g4's(tablets) and g3's(pdas). imagine an ibook that has a touch screen instead of a keyboard, or an ipod thats all screen with a pull out keyboard like the OQO. but the newton died and the tablets were before there time.

last time I checked Apple was not struggling but what ever...look at the companies that do have tablet PCs out and see how well they are doing....not very when compaired to a traditional portable...the issue is the interface...I can type way faster than I can write and though the IDEA of a tablet PC like in Star Trek: TNG is nice BUT it isn't that pratical...yeah there are going to be some things that it is good for but I think in general they won't take off due to interface issues as well as actual usability

Apple is probably one of the most misunderstood computer companies in the world.

I know that apple never actually manufactered anything like that themselves but I know that the company did make the newton, and they ditched that after they realized that there wasn't a huge market for pdas and tablet PCs.

Tablet PC's are just junk by the way. They are for people who cannot type, period. I can sit on my keyboard and type faster than some people can read. I do abou 100 gwam or so in a good situation or whenever I'm comfortable. People think that touch pads or what ever are the future well I feel terrible for them.

now if they can get the systems up to the point that they can do voice-to-text, tablets will just be a fad...I can see them becoming popular with the medical community so they can be walking around and review paitent records but I still think the V-T-T will be required

Voice to text can be done on apple computers. They have been experimenting with that sort of shit for a while though nothing truly practical has become of it.

Want to see something really cool though, see how well os ten will recognize voice commands. It makes Windows look like Lindows.
