Apple iPhones

Been told by the work to buy one of these Apple iPhones - they are paying for it. Looks like a trip down to the shopping centre tomorrow.

Is there anything that iPhones can do that other phones cannot do?

As long as you get an Android based phone, a Windows Phone 7 based phone, or an iPhone you will be happy with it.

Personally I prefer iOS to Android for a cell phone, and Android to iOS on tablet devices.

Pretty much this, with the caveat that the App Store is bigger than the Android Market and should enable some pretty specific functionality should the need arise.

I'll tell you one thing it can't do that most new Android phones coming out can and that's Flash. FedEx delivered my Atrix this morning, I wasn't expecting it until tomorrow so this was a pleasant surprise. This is by far the best smartphone I've ever owned (Evo, 3GS, Aria, Craptivate, in that order) The display is fantastic, Flash performance is very good and it comes with a huge battery. Apple can say whatever they want about Flash, "it just works" and works good on the Atrix. With the computing power current and future smartphones have there's no excuse for not having the option to support Flash. It's still a large part of the internet experience and Apple doesn't support it. If they wanted to they could give users a choice of turning it off, but they're afraid of Flash.

The question was "Is there anything that iPhones can do that other phones cannot do?". The question was not "Is there anything Android phones can do that the iPhone cannot do?". If he had wanted an answer to such a question, he would have asked it.

Secondly, the iPhone 4 has a better display than the attrix. Even with all the bells and whistles that the attrix has it still didn't top a resolution that apple came out with LAST year (a fact which no other phone has either) ???

Apple isn't "afraid" of Flash, nor is Apple the colossal buzzkill people make out its closed ecosystem to be; rather, Apple has made a concerted effort to maximize battery life in its laptops and portable devices, and Flash is a battery eater. Jobs has hung his hat on HTML5 because he believes it to the future of video delivery, and one that requires less power, and therein less battery power to work well.

I don't begrudge anyone's desire or need for Flash on their mobile devices, but it's not part of what Apple has deemed its future strategy. From my experience, the internet without Flash is just usable and entertaining as it is with it.

A Chinese android phone called the Meizu M9 has the same display as the iphone 4, and it was release last Christmas (close enough)

Anyways, I'm still secretly wishing for someone to make 720p (1280x800 please) on a 4 inch screen . Until then, my iphone 4 will have to do

The only disagreement I have with your paragraph is that the internet *with* flash is usable and entertaining.

Over the past decade I can think of a couple instances where I wished I had flash and other than that I tried to keep it off my computers--mobile, laptop, or otherwise. Whatever the reason, flash consistently ate resources and bogged down my browsers.

I probably missed it less than others because I was always running something strange--either opera in its infancy, firefox in 64bit, or whatever the case may be. Other than flash developers, I can't think of many reasons to worry about flash short of playing browser games.

Ya and I doubt anyone in NA will ever see that phone. The Chinese and Japanese make all sorts of cool shit all day long...... but it 95% of it never sees the light of day in NA.

The quality and utility of Asian handsets is vastly overrated. The one big useful thing they have is NFC, and that’s making its way to North America. I’ll take NFC; Japan can keep the phones with the extending television antennas.

I'm in china right now, and a co worker has it, as a mac fanboi I actually like the meizu m9. It has a very simple interface, and its very responsive. Also Lenovo made a pretty cool one too.
