As Steve pointed out earlier last week, there is an Apple patent that has been fueling the fires of discussion. Today, some people believe that this patent could simply point to another, small version of the iPhone. I say we let the first one hit the shelves and then figure this one out later.

Apple is going to launch a new product line with the iPhone next month. The newly discovered patent application of Apple describing a backside touch panel puts more weight to the prediction that Apple will at some point release a smaller iPhone.

Rich, that's not very practical. Phones are constantly changing. My guess is the lead time on development is at least a year or two. Unless the iPhone is light years ahead of the competition, a new version every year is probably the maximum amount of time they can go between new versions. Most companies are releasing a new phones every 3 to 6 months. Then again, it's apple and it is only one one provider, so maybe that means they can take their time, but I have to believe we'll see a new version no more than 12 months after the 1.0 is released.

I can see that apple will release a non-pda phone for the masses. It would not suprise me.
