Of course Apple wants to release new movies on iTunes while they’re still in theaters. EVERYBODY wants new movies on their platform while they are still in theaters. Aside from theater owners threatening studios with boycotts, I don't know why this hasn't happened already.

Some studio executives have been pushing to allow home rentals as early as two weeks after theatrical debuts and are considering a deal with iTunes as one option, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. The most recent talks are part of longer-running efforts by Cupertino, California-based Apple to get new movies sooner, two of the people said. Such an arrangement could help iTunes stand out in a crowded online market for movies, TV shows and music.

I'm sure Apple has the consumer's best interests in mind, and they won't use this opportunity to over-charge or otherwise screw people over.

Of course not, just like the cable companies and their pay per view deals.

There is a box already out for high end home theater that charges $50 for 24 hr access. I would pay that now.

I swear there is nothing some of you won't bitch about. I hate to break it to you but it will never be free, contrary to this forums opinion movie studios and game makers are entitled to charge for their work. That price is always going to be what the market will handle.

Bitch about the ISPs all you want, as that is a legitimate complaint. It is them that is holding us back from things like this (they always are buying up the content producers as fast as they can).

No reason to go off on me...I don't have any problems paying for movies. I buy BluRays all the damn time, and I legit own all the music in my library and every game in my collection. I don't mind paying $20-25 for a new movie.

I am quite sure, given Apple's history, that they will somehow overcharge for this feature.

Yes we do bitch about it because it's not what the market will handle, it's that the markets are fixed. But, the nice thing is that this is the first shot in to shrinking the obsolete 'cinema experience.' And, don't get me wrong, I enjoy premium movie experiences and expect to pay a premium price. But your average theater has been outdated by a decade. If Apple can clinch this, it's only a matter of time until competition rolls in again.

Two weeks after release in theaters...no thanks. By that time I've either already gone to see it or I don't really care to see it any way.

Whatever they charge will either be acceptable or not in an open market. In that sense, he's right that what you really seem to be complaining about is that you expect the price to be more than you think it's worth. Unless you meant "overcharge" in the sense that you pay the sticker price and then your credit card bill has a different amount.

I doubt they'll overcharge for the movies. Apple has always been pretty reasonable for content. It's the hardware they'd overcharge for. They'd probably make a brand new Apple tv for the service and charge like $500 for that device. They'll make OS updates for it and release new versions of the device every year. The OS updates will be designed in a way that it gets so bloated that a 2 year old device just becomes slow and unresponsive. So you'd have to buy a new device.

I don't pay extra to see movies in the theater... hell maybe once every other *year* I might actually go to the movies.

Early access to something I don't give a crap about anyway? They could charge $100, or $0.10 and I woudln't care.

And corporate people are still trying to figure out *why* piracy always seems to get worse instead of better?

stop spreading false information here, that is probably piracy.

There are only two ways to watch movies at home on release day.
install the I Max hone theatre
OR
Install Prima Cinema which costs $35k for the set top box, it costs $500 dollars for a one time viewing and $600 dollars for a 3d movie, they are also picky with min number or seats and max number of seats(22).

there already is a company that does that, Prima cinema and the set top box with finger print scanner, accelerometer etc costs 35k

I don't know about "early" access, but they do offer "equal" access for limited release movies. Meaning that it comes out to theater AND iTunes on the same day.

Also there some movies that do not even come out on disc anymore, you HAVE to go through iTunes or Amazon.

Things that comes to mind are
Skinwalker Ranch
(alien movie), as well as the full seasons of Yo Gabba Gabba.

I wonder if it's going to be like youtube movies... 20 bucks plus premium prices lol. Never ever going to pay that much for a rental.

If your business model is only viable because of artificial restrictions blocking out your competitors, its time to reevaluate your business model.

Forget that I wait for it to come out on my favorites red porn box and just march right down to the comer street and pick it up and only cost me a few bucks, I don't mind waiting

Ouch, that's expensive. Well Apple is going to want to bring those prices down to snare up a larger pool of users, but not lower it enough that there isn't going to be some kind of premium for it. I don't think Apple is going to want to give up their luxury stereotype.
