well not yet but v.soon.
just a quick intro, stumbled across the forum 2days ago while researching the current crop of 23" 16ms displays, mainly as most people the HP, Sony and Apple.
I didnt think I was ever going to be able to decide which one, got it down to the sony and apple then just about settled on the Sony then stumbled into this forum and I was back to square one! (and Jerry u didnt Help much!!!!)
Jerry if u read this dont take that, the wrong way your views were constructive but if you read the full posts back I dont think you (like many of us) have totally decieded yet m8
Reason for choosing the Apple are:
a:\it looks a quality made product as most things Apple are built very well (only seen the new 23" on the web tho at present, only apple product i currently own is an i-pod)
b:\same spec as the Sony with a brighter back light not the be all and end all but every little helps,
c:\i was concerned that quite a few people were not impressed with the setup of the sony out of the box.
d:\the fact somehow I have come to the conclusion the Apple will be easier to return if im not happy.
e:\rumours that apple gets higher quality pannels, i am fully aware this maybe bs but it also may be true.
f:\you have to make a decision at some point! I couldnt take any more indecisive torture.
my main concerns are:
a:\how a 23" 16ms pannel performs from a gaming perspective I work with computers day in day out, but this screen is for home and the last thing i want to do on it is work.
b\the post screen issues, i have read somewhere that a user of this screen got the post screens with his Gainward 6800 Ultra which was good news as thats the card im presently running.
c:\the game of pixel roulette. (10day satisfaction guarantee with apple, so if any dead or stucks on delivery i will return.
d:\I dont think the fact the apple only has brightness control on the Unit should be too much of an issue for me, as they are supposed to be setup very well and my current gfx driver has all the adjustment i need.
Ordered late last night from UK Apple Store, Apple were off to a good start with me after I recieved a courtesy call this morning to inform me the unit was in stock to check delivery address detail, thank me for my order and to say i should take delivery Mon or Tue next week, a nice touch not every supplier would do that from an online order.
so watch this space:
An Apple 23" Cinema HD from a gamers perspective, running with a 6800U testing out with doom3, farcry and counter strike source initially, and HL2 if valve get there bloody act together complete the legal battle and give me a key for the already purchased and downloaded copy from steam.
Apple please....please be pixel perfect and keep your ghosting down to a minimum.
p.s. currently running a LG 16ms L1720B native 1280x1024 wanted the new monitor to push a few more pixels from the Ultra.
I certanly didnt expect to ever spend this much hard earned on a monitor, I hope its a wise but costly investment.
