Apple 20" Display - should I be ordering something else?

I've just ordered an Apple 20" Display to replace my 17 Apple TFT (tax year is soon and need to spenmd some pennies .

Now, I would have liked the option to hook up my Xbox to this display but having done a search I know this is now not possible

So my question is, factoring everything in (e.g. I can still use the xbox on my poo portable TV), is the Apple 20" the best option at present price and performance wise or is there other options worth considering?

Also are there any major probs with the Apple 20" as my 17" Apple TFT has been awesome. I use a G5.

the apple display is awesome, very slick design, but if you shop around carefully you could nab 2 20" dell LCD's for your powermac, and according to the tech specs its supports S-video and compisite for your xbox.

The 2005FPW by dell uses the same panel as the Apple, it has all the inputs for TV as well as costs much less than the Apple. The only problem is it seems to have really bad backlighting issues.

OK, thanks. Think I'll stick with the Apple then and leave my Xbox on the portable. I rely on my display for income so would be a bit knackered if I started getting backlight issues etc.

Or get the 2405FWP from Dell for the same cost. 24", multiple inputs, great reviews. The Apple looks good...by itself, but next to a 24" Dell, it loses its flavor.

Unless you're worried about color, trust me, the Dell won't compare to the Apple. It sounds like you made your decision, but if it was just for the XBox I would've said to go ahead and switch for the Dell, but since it's your source of income, it's probably best to have the apple.

What hardware color profiler do you use to ascertain your opinion on color accuracy between the two panels? I use a GretagMacbeth EyeOne on the 2405 and it looks good, but am unable to compared it to an Apple, since I don't have one.

There was something going around that the apples show certain hues of color like pink or yellow over the entire panel. I think that might be what he's talking about.

Yeah, that's only an issue with (and ONLY with) the 23" Apple Cinema Displays. The 20" and 30" are good. As for color calibration, I use the Spyder. To be honest, I only saw the Dell monitors without them being calibrated, and the colors seemed a tad washed out or just a SMIDGE dull. That smidge can really make a difference too, sadly.

To be honest, I only saw the Dell monitors without them being calibrated, and the colors seemed a tad washed out or just a SMIDGE dull. That smidge can really make a difference too, sadly.

I've connected my 2405 both via DVI and VGA. It looks a tad washed out via VGA, but very nice and no issues via DVI. Incidentally, I saw the 30 inch and that looked a tad washed out to me, but I saw it at CompUSA under their lighting conditions (hooked up to the G5). Unless I can see them both side by side running on the same system, I really can't judge. But they are the only game in town for a 30 though. Makes the 24 look small LOL.

Thats odd, I don't really know anything about color calibration, but the 2405fpw seemed almost too rich at first. I'v gotten to really like the way it looks now though.
