Hey guys so I have been without trouble for some time now with my 680 but wait, suddenly crept a problem with my 680 on Witcher 2. I guess these slides are self explanatory. Please take a look.

As you can clearly see all the screenshots show around 46 fps regardless of the image preset and the GPU usage for god sakes is below 50% and never touches even 65 under heavy fights.... I mean wtf!.... could anyone please tell me what is wrong? The weird thing is I am getting 60 fps whenever I climb a ladder anywhere in the game and not just this level ... I really need some help from you guys...:(

C`mon guys, so many views and no replies?... I would really appreciate if someone can help me here.

per usual:

reinstall drivers, try different drivers. Disable any sort of Vsync. Reinstall the game too.

was it working fine before and just suddenly started happening? Screen shot shows early part of the game, which might mean you just started playing it?

Yes, I just started playing it. I am using the 306.97 drivers. Just now tried the game at 720p! and guess what 46.3 fps on the same spot. Damn!. Please help.... Tried reinstalling the game countless times to no avail, turned off Vsync to no avail, tried Adaptive Vsync but no effect....:(... The only thing left to try is rolling back to older drivers and see how the performance is.

try beta drivers too.

In all honesty, are you experiencing alot of choppiness or inconsistency? Or is the only thing bothering you is that number 46 up on the screen? You can turn it off and enjoy the game otherwise, you know.

No I am fine if the game runs ok but dont you think this symptom is weird?. of course I am not gonna get a Phd or something researching this but I paid 500 quid for my hardware and I expect the most from it, and looking at the benchmarks the 680 should max out the game easily without Uber. Just curious to find a solution to this problem, That is all.

I'll bite. I get 60~ fps with my 7970 and this is with uber turned on.

Something has to be going on with the drivers. Make sure you're up to date on drivers.. do a complete fresh install using driver sweeper. Also, make sure the game is up to date as well.

What version of the game are you using?. I have tried reinstalling the drivers more than once to no avail... I ll try rolling back to 301.xx and see what happens.

try reducing your overclock ?

Yup same old results, surprisingly there is not difference in frame rate even at stock clocks... But the strangest thing is the GPU usage, its at 50% in that scene... how is it that the gpu is used only half way when I am only getting 45 fps?. If the game runs so badly should`n the GPU be used more especially when the game is so demanding?.

This is a little hard to swallow...but what resolution are you playing to consistently get around 60fps? HardOCP recently did a Witcher 2 test with a 7970GHZ and only got 41fps at 1080p

http://hardocp.com/article/2012/11/12/fall_2012_gpu_driver_comparison_roundup/7

I recently dropped alot of hours into W2 with my 680. At 1920x1200 uber on, there was no way I was getting around 60fps consistently

OP,

I noticed you are still at the very beginning of the game....I'm gonna say just keep progressing forward. Play it on Ultra, minus Uber....that should yield the best performance overall. I dropped in about 60 hours on W2 recently, and just like alot of people said, the game isn't optimized very well. I noticed alot of random slow downs here and there. It didn't bother me, cuz I knew it was the game, and not the hardware. If you played GTA 4, you'll know what I'm talking about

Hmm, what is your CPU load like during game play?

Also I noticed i had something similar with I was running 2 680s in SLI. But the game was smooth.

try disabling FXAA in the NV control panel too?

And just to make sure its not the hardware, here is the results of my latest Heaven Benchmark run.

Seems about right to me... The gpu usage was 99% all the way when I ran the benchmark.

at 1280x720?

Don't worry about it...it's not your hardware....like I said earlier, Witcher 2 is not a well optimized game at all....I just got done doing 2 playthroughs and I was getting random slow downs here and there....even if there was nothing going on, it will dip into the 30's...it didn't bother me cuz I researched ahead of time, and alot of people say the same

Yeah thanks for the assurance, I think I am also done with it as I do not like the feel of the game anyway. My worry was that other people get an average of 60 fps throughout the game with a 670 or a 680 but I am not. Moreover could anyone please confirm me if these numbers makes sense.

BF3: Avg: 60 (1080p, Ultra)
Crysis 2: Avg: 60 (1080p, High Res, Ultra)
Metro 2033 Avg:60 Min:30 (1080p, Advanced Physx ON, Very High, 4xMSAA, Advanced DOF OFF)
MOH Warfighter Avg:60 (1080p, Ultra)
Crysis Warhead: Avg:45-50 Min:30 (1080p, Enthusiast, 4xMSAA) ---------> seems too low does it not?, Please Confirm.
Dirt Showdown: Avg:60 (1080p, All Ultra or HIgh, Advanced Lighting ON, Global Illum OFF)

Well they are right about W2, and getting about 60fps....Because I was getting 60fps, Uber off, but it wasn't consistent....I would walk into a town, or indoors....then all of a sudden it lags crazy when I start talking to someoone...I just rubbed it off as a badly optimized game...cuz during other scenes or combat, I was hitting 60fps, or close too....so it made no sense as to why all of a sudden I lagged crazy when nothing is going on

And I don't understand what you're trying to do with those numbers?

I just wanted to verify whether the frame rates I am getting in these games are about the same as other people that is all just to rule out the Graphics card or the OS as the problem because this is not the only game in which I am getting flaky performance. Crysis Warhead is also another one where I am getting below par results and 45-50 fps seems unplayable to me just because I have a very sensitive eye.

Might add some clocks to that 2500k? Should do 4.2GHz on stock cooling.

lol, I see...well I hate to break it to you, but Crysis is another one of those very demanding games that will have a hard time holding 60FPS consistently....it will slow down here and there....if you don't want it to slow down, then grab a second card for SLI....I'm sorry but thats just the name of the game

Damn it!... I thought so. I thought the 680 could handle even Crysis at 60 fps when I bought it and many people on this forum suggested that a single card would be enough and overkill for a single 1080p monitor and a 680 will thrash any game blah blah... lol!.... Well wake up! Crysis brings the 680 to its knees by the way!... I would have bought dual 7950`s or 670`s if that was the case :(..... Actually one thing I noticed was that the card handles all DX 11 titles with ease but the DX 9 or 10 titles give terrible performance.

NVidia drivers have a nasty habit of defaulting to multi-monitor productivity mode, especially after a new install. Make sure it's set to single monitor gaming mode. That glitch can impose artificial performance limits.

Re: DX9, might be worth it to download and install the full DX9 pack from Microsoft. Some stuff is left out in the newer versions of Windows that may affect performance and compatibility.
