Hi All
Quick question for you.
I have the newer swify apex kit with the apogee, my question is if i purchase a Storm will it work with my current 478 mountings?
I cant be arsed removing my mobo.
Will the Storm be a good improvement?
Temps on cpu @ idle are around 36 and load 44c with no overclock and fans on rad @5v
Any advice
 
It will work but don't expect more then a 1-2c improvement at load.
 
Those temps that you have arent good at all. Ive seen reviews in the 30's for load.
 
Yeah, if your Apogee doesn't leak, I wouldn't buy the new block. Unless you have scads of disposable income or have a Storm fetish.
 
Sounds like a bad mount or too much thermal paste... and I would keep the Apogee unless you just want max performance and have cash to drop on it... it will only get you like 1c or maybe no change dep on application. Anyways... your temps should be about (roughly) ~32c idle and ~ 38c load with a good mount (IHS on) and after the thermal paste sets (72 hours or so). I just put the apogee on my setup but I popped the lid on my cpu also at the same time... my temps have dropped, but likely that's the lidless affect. :)

Can't bash his temps without knowing all the factors. Temps depend on so many things accuracy of diodes, base ambient temp so on.
 
definitely... I didn't mean to bash... Ambient temps play a huge part, plus internal case temps, heat pooling, etc... yes, many things

My temps are high because i am using a 478 prescott 3.2gb with over 100 watts of power to burn and is a nightmare to keep cool.
Also i am using rad fans @5v because noise is a issue for me.
I am thinking of getting two Akasa amber 120mm 18db fans for my rad because i am so impressed with the amber series fans lack of noise.
What do you guys use fan wise and what db?
 
ohhhh! ok... I assumed too much (amd cpu). Glad you feel better about things now. :)

As for my fans, I have my koolance, which uses it's own fans, but also my 120mm second rad just has two regular 120mm AC Ryan fans, one in front and one in back.. seems to get the job done. seems pretty quiet to me.. 25db or so.. not ultra quiet, but..
 
Tested setup on 7v and found much better temps 36c to 40c but is a bit loud tbh anout 30ish db.
Has anybody tried the Akasa 120 amber fan on a rad yet?
 
I seriously wish my hearing was as good as everyone else here. I guess too many years of Industrial/EBM music must have destroyed any chance I'll ever have of the pain of hearing a fan like it's supposed to be heard.

I'm running two cheap-ass Thermaltake fans off my file-server's DD 2x120. Both are running on a fan controller that automatically adjusts the fan speed based on temps. I don't know that they've ever spun up fully, but still... lets say it's at 75% RPM... these fan's rated sound is somewhere around 32 dB and, to be honest... I usually forget they're even there. If I had my case on the floor instead of next to my head I'd probably never even hear them.

Are you recording live vocals in a mixing studio?

Otherwise, I'd suggest you play a game that draws your attention away from fan noise more (or switch to some hardkore music).

I just don't understand.

Just my 2c (or quid or whatever).
 
Of course i would love to play techno or what ever to drown out the fan noise but I cant.

I had thermaltake fans before and they were supposed to be 17db but i would guess they are around 30db tbh.
BellaCroix I recommend saving your remaining hearing by getting a couple of those Akasa amber fans :D
 
The apogee are nice and I really doubt that you will gain much with the storm 4c max.

The problen with the storms is the jets requirer a bit of pressure. I use the storms there great . but so is what you have. Also those ports can become plugged and so the storm does require maintenance.

No way I been using the P4 650 and up and overclocking the hell out of them underload game all day all night temps stay below 36C
 
A second radiator would improve temps considerably at that noise level/fan power.
