What is better

I am looking into buying the

MITSUBISHI DP930SB-BK Diamond Pro 930SB

But dont know if the 2 wires, will bother me or not

so its between the

NEC/MITSUBISHI DP930SB-BK Diamond Pro 930SB

or the Samsung 997DF

I really cant decide so help me

what is better, for the clearest picture and crisp text and brightness, all of the above
 
The general school of thought is that shadow mask tubes can produce finer/sharper text than an aperture grill tube but the aperture grill's have brighter/more saturated color.

Personally I would go aperture grill as I find shadow mask tubes rather comparitively dull, but thats just my opinion.
 
I'm of the opinion that AG is the better way to go, as long as you dont mind the 2 lines caused by the guide wires.
 
i choose apeture grill on my computer when i got it, but i can't remember why, cause that was 2 years ago..

go to bust buy or circuit shitty and just look at different monitors and see what you like..

shadow mask is kinda like bricks... they are rectangles that overlap each other.. . AG is a bunch of squares... if that makes sense...

and the 2 wires... you won't notice them... i can only see mine when the background is a light color.. and i actually found myself using them in photoshop sometimes to make sure things are straight or parallel to each other.. shit like that...
 
I'm going to say Shadow Mask. I got an AG monitor almost 2 years ago. I figured I would get used to the lines. NOPE. I can't stand them. And while the SM monitors don't get super bright. Just means you need to adjust your gama settings. That and I've found the AG monitors go to a Dot Pich of .28 -.26 where SM are around .20 (Smaller the number the finer the pixil.)
 
I'm an extremely paranoid type of person about even the smallest of things and the aperture grille lines dont bother me one bit. I didn't even notice them for a couple of days because i had forgot to look for them.

Their not HUGE quarter inch lines across the screen. Their tiny hairlines you can only see on a light colored background.

And whats the refresh rates on the Samsung CRT? Most Samsung's have really crappy refresh rates.
 
i seriously have been looking at this monitor for the last month for a few hours every day... and i forgot about the lines till reading this post... i remember it took a while to get used to them.. but i seriously forgot they were even there...
 
I personally have an AG monitor (fp2141) and the lines are noticable when the screen is very light. Like when using word or ea intro on bf1942. However, I can't see the any other time. Sure the samsung shadow mask on my other system doesn't have the same lines, but it has way more draw backs. First off the refresh rates suck. Not supporting 1280x1024@85hz on a 19in monitor is just stupid. The most annoying thing about the screen though, it just doesn't seem flat. I mean it almost looks like the outside glass is flat, but there is and inside glass that is where the actual image is projected that appears slightly curved. Now I never noticed this until I got my AG monitor. I'm not sure if it is just the 955df I have or if it is a "feature" on all shadowmask screens, but it sure as hell isn't perfect flat.
 
You're correct on the flatness of shadow mask. They are just slightly curved on the sinside. Usaly too little to notice. I found the 955DF it to be very noticable. It's quite a bit better on the 997DF model. That is why companys like Samsung call thier monitors DynaFlat and not Perficly Flat.
