I have had this UPS since Feb and it was always at 100% charged and with in the last 2-3 weeks it will not go above 74% charged. I had them send me another one and the new one is only at 54%.

I have not changed anything in the system at all since Feb. So i dont know what is causing it not charge fully.

My system is in my sig below. and the UPS is the 500v 300watt one

I have now taken the 1st UPS and plugged in and nothing is plugged into into it except for the USB cable, and I am monitoring it with my laptop and so far for the last 2 hours it has only got up to 78% and then has dropped back down to 66%.

what do you think is the deal here.

dunno...
does it run hot?
The battery could just be going bad.
Though, don't judge APC because of one bad battery.

A UPS should charge completely regardless of what's connected, it uses juice from the battery only during a power outage.

Batteries should be replaced roughly every 3-5 years. Depends on the usage pattern of course. For example, I got about 4.5 years out of the batteries in my very old SmartUPS 900. Our power is pretty good here, they spent most of the time on float charge. More frequent use would require more frequent battery replacement.
