I'm using usb adapter to make a serial port for my laptop ( i don't have a serial port on my laptop)
i have installed PowerChute Business edition but that doesn't recognize UPS attached
also i have tried PowerChute Plus but no luck
i have two ups one su620 and another su700
anybody have experience with this???

Have you tried going through all the different COM ports?

I do know that some USB>Serial adapters don't work with all programs since there were a few that wouldn't work with our car tuning software. I myself just grabbed an older laptop with a serial port, but that wouldn't help you out any.

uff but i don't have another physical port only one and that is over usb
how can i test is the connection working?
can I use hyperterminal or something else??

Just found this out on APC's site,

Q: What is APC's stance on the use of third party USB-Serial converter cables with APC Back-UPS products?

A: Occasionally, customers' have experienced success with third party USB - Serial converters and APC Back-UPS and Back-UPS Pro products. However, the use of these with APC products is not supported by APC. APC has not conducted any official testing for compatibility with these products. Additionally using these products will void your Equipment Protection Policy with APC.
