I have a 3U rackmount version of the smart-ups 3000
I rescued it from being thrown out from the grain mill down the road from me a month ago.
I put new batteries into it a week ago
the unit itself works very well
12min runtime with a 1500watt load or nearly an hour with my desktop + 21" crt

the problem i'm having is getting the UPS software to work with the UPS.
I have tried the older powerchute 5.6 software as well as the current powerchute buisness basic 7
with any of the 5 serieal cables i have (one being the orig from the unit) when ever I run the software detection utility, or otherwise try to communicate with the UPS over the serial link, the UPS just turns off like it got a shut down command

are there any workarounds i could use?
I know the unit with the right software would let me monitor load on the unit as well as input voltage etc....wich would be nice so i can calculate runtime and try and watch my powerbll
