The network guy at the office gave me a APC Smart UPS 1000XLNET with some dead batteries. I replaced the batteries, that was no problem. I would like to find the cable I need to connect the UPS to the computer. The APC site has one, but it's $27.00 for a 6' cable. It says a standard rs232 will not work. Does anyone know the type of cable I need, would Monoprice have one? What is so special about this cable? I have cable that came with my old Cyberpower 1250avr but if I plug it in the APC shuts down, so I'm guessing it won't work.

So If I'm reading that pinout right all I should have to do is map the 1 pin to the 3 pin and the same thing for the 5 and 9 pins, correct? Sorry for the dumb question, just never built many cables.

No problem, we all start somewhere. You've got it right. Just don't forget about the note immediately below the table -- a few of the pins need to be shorted.
