AOC-USAS-L8i Issue

I need some help. I've already had the card RMA'd through SuperMicro and it came back to me with them stating that nothing was wrong with the card and it passed all the checks.

So here's the issue, I can't get the motherboard to recognize the card on the SUPERMICRO MBD-PDSME+-O:

1. SUPERMICRO MBD-PDSME+-O (This the the board I want to install on)
2. Abit IP35 (Test Board) **CARD WORKS on the board**

I've done the following:

1.Updated the BIOS on the motherboards to the latest from each of the manufacturers sites.
2.Tried to update the BIOS of the AOC-USAS-L8i but the flash utility does not see the card.
3. Disabled the ROM for my other x2 SUPERMICRO AOC-SAT2-MV8 cards.
4. Removed everything from the motherboard except the CPU, RAM, and the AOC-USAS-L8i.

So now I'm scratching my head wondering what I'm doing wrong. The SuperMicro technical support swears that the card will work with my motherboard.

Sorry for the wall of text, does anyone have any ideas?

I've had some boards that I had to mess with the BIOS settings quite a bit in seemingly unrelated ways to get the USAS to show up.

I'm assuming that you've tried different PCI-E slots?

Have you tried installing a PCI video card? Sometimes boards want to use whatever's in a PCI-E slot as a video card even if they have on-board video.

Thanks for the reply boydjd. I don't have any PCI video cards to play with. The only other slot other than the PCI-E x8 is an PCI-E x4 but the card is not physically compatible with the slot.

I messed with the bios more than I care to mention. I hope I'm not SOL on this one.

I came across an obscure post in another forum with someone using the same card and motherboard but I've yet to get a response from them.

Have you tried forcing the x8 slot to x4 in the BIOS? Play with all of the PCI-E settings in the BIOS and see if anything changes.

Well, there's no setting in the bios to force the pci-e to anything. There's one for the pci-x but not pci-e.

The only option for pci-e is to enable if for master and ROM scan.

On my X7DWE the PCI-e speed settings are under the advanced chipset control menu but it's for forcing Gen1 and Gen2 not 4x and 8x.

You could cut out the back edge of the 4x slot so the card will fit(some 4x slot come this way) but it looks like you'd also need to do something about the heatsink behind it(you could just remove it for testing) it might just work since the 4x slot comes off the SB and the 8x slot comes of the NB.

I'd rather not modify the card. I'm kind of giving up on this one. I thought perhaps that I missed a setting somewhere and it was an easy fix.

The card works just not in my server, which is fine, not what I wanted but none the less fine.

Thanks everyone for the help!

I could not log in the card BIOS on my P5WDH mobo. I had to disable fast boot, and mess with PCI-Latency, had to increase it from default of 64 cycles to 128 or something like this. You can always try to change these settings, can't hurt.
