it's a way to know which specific thread is being processed by whichever theoretical CPU...yes..you are using it if the program has been optimized for it.

The way I checked mine was to start a game (rise of nations) alt-tab out and then start burning some mp3's....then went back to the game and all was fine. I was never really able to do that before.
