I have 83 days left on a step up from my GTX260, although I love it, I use the step-up to gradually get whatever is the best on the market at the time. Is there any word on a more powerful card that will be coming out in the next 2.5 months? Of course, other than the gtx280 and I'm not interested in the gx2 as I had my filling on SLI nuances with my 7950gx2 prior to the 260.

Where ya been man?
There's tons of threads on the rumored 55nm G200b, er GTX280+, er GTX290...
I'm in the same boat as you with a 260 - my step up runs out in mid October.

expect the die shrink to come out. The GTX280b should be a nice step up for you.

I'm curious about the next generation though, the 380 GTX or whatever its called. I don't really expect much of the upcoming die shrink.

GT200b was something that was speculated in past, but there haven't been anything indicating that it would be real so logical assumption is that this was just faked rumour.

there will be a die shrink and soon. expect some better clocks.

Yeah, I did see a couple of those mentioned after making my post. I guess I wasn't really sure what I was looking for in an answer and was hoping to stir up a bit of conversation to learn a thing or two. So basically just a die shrink of the 260/280 which will give us higher clock speeds? Will it be realeased as you said a GTX280B or will it just be a revision number and you won't really know which your getting without a detailed question when you order it?

I will get you up to speed fast... ;)

when we ask them if they expect to regain the performance leadership this year, Stam says "Yes".

"*** has learned that NVIDIA will launch the 55nm successor to the GeForce GTX 280 at NVISION 08. We previously had our suspicions that the launch would be at NVISION".

"This visual computing mega-event will be held in San Jose, California from August 25th-27th. According to NVIDIA the host and main sponsor of the event: "NVISION will gather together top visual computing professionals, world-class gamers, innovative artists and designers, and cutting-edge researchers to share their ideas, experiences, and passions."

Shader speed was the weakest thing on the 280, so starting at 1620MHz before OC is exciting.

I plan on picking one up. (GTX 280+, 280 Ultra, 290. whatever they call it.) ;)

We also have Big Bang II around the corner...
It will be a new set of drivers for us.

We don't know exactly what this will mean yet.

I am hoping for SLI on X38 mobo's myself. :D

Ya got to have a dream... ;)

Are you sure the specs in Wikipedia is correct? I don't really trust info from Wikipedia sometimes, I've seen people editing incorrect information. And I wish NVIDIA would officially announce the specs of this GT200b refresh already. And to be released at the end of this August sounds kinda fishy to me.

Nope!! Pure guessing... :D

That pesky NDA gets in the way of hard cold fact.

That is the best guess we currently have to my knowledge.

I would love to see more info myself.

OP want's to see into the future... ;)
So do I...

They do not mention that he had fingers crossed when he said that...;)
Good luck Nvidia!

I'm rooting for them. :)

If they are successful, having that much speed on 1 super fast chip would be the way to go...

Everybody keep your ear to the ground!

If any new scrap's of info come in, be sure to post it up... :D

(On the new Card, or Big Bang II)

besides what out there right now and the die shrink, I think Nvidia is trying to keep a tight lip on what it is coming out with in the future.

They are doing a wonderful job with that on this card...

Normally we have more info on a card that is just days from being shown, correct?

It'll be interesting to see what they do come nvision. It's basically going to determine whether or not my stepup will be used anytime in the near future.

According to the Fudzilla, the GT200b will only be released in Q4 2008.
I have posted a few times that the end of August/early September rumor was BS.
The GT200 GPU is the most complex GPU ever and it was very unlikely that a re-spin could be engineered and brought to market in only 2 months.
Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if the GT200b slips to Q1 2009 but let's hope that this chip will see the daylight in 2008...

In other words, those who planned to step-up are out of luck.
