Anything 3D crashes my PC

Well, I just installed 32-bit Vista on this PC today, and anything 3D like the cool guy window switching thing, or games will crash my pc.

I've tried Crysis, Halo 2 Vista, and Counter Strike: Source.

I installed the latests drivers 169.25 WHQL at first but I suspected they were the problem so I uninstalled them through the add/remove program thing. I also tried the latest Omega drivers and the 169.21 beta drivers. With all of these the game will run fine in the menus and everything, but once you see geometry and stuff, it works for about 2 seconds and then crashes with the weird green/purple dots everywhere. After that happens I usually need to hard restart it, or I get a blue screen(with the green and purple shit still there).

Specs:
E6750
Corsair Dominator
8800 GT
680i SLI

Before installing vista this rig has been performing great, with good temps.

Has anyone seen this before or now ho to fix it? I'm guessing I need to try older drivers or uninstall them properly. I probably restarted my computer about 40 times today, so I decided to post this instead of wasting more time.
 
looks like your card might be needing some extra juice
get a good PSU !!!

weird stuff. is your system overclocked?
and why Vista 32? u should use Vista 64bit
 
No, its all stock.

I've been using 32bit XP, works fine, don't see the point of using 64bit.
 
have u install your mobo nforce drivers correctly?
well u have a 64bit processor so...
 
The 7900GTs had a problem with 3D applications and screen corruption with vista. I haven't heard of this problem with 8800GTs, but the way to fix it for the 7900GTs was to change the clock speed of your card by a few MHz. Maybe worth a try if there are no other solutions.

I'll try it with nTune since RivaTuner wont overclock it.
 
yeah, if something's locking out/blocking Rivatuner that's weird, maybe the system's not even recognizing the card. Have you checked display settings to see what's being acknowledged?
 
Yeah, its there. When I try to change the clocks it just sets them back to default after I exit the thing, or save the profile and go back to it.

850W from aspire is 380W from seasonic, if that. Whats the make and model?

aside from that, how did you do the "upgrade"? Fresh format with install or windows.old file or something else?
 
When you installed the new drivers, then uninstalled (or was it uninstalled then installed)....did you go thru the SAFE MODE of uninstalling your drivers?

In the video card section (in the stickies) it talks about this and how if not done properly, it can cause quarky things to happen.

Just a thought :)

Also, as you can read in the last line of my rig.....this is one of many reasons why I have that quote there, heh.

Did you install new drivers for your mobo?. My pc was unstable with vista till i remembered to install the mobo drivers. Kept locking up on me in games. Oddly enough its the mobo drivers i always forget to install when i have to re-install windows.
 
Thanks for all you help guys, I did the drivercleaner thing, and installed the eVGA 169.44 drivers and it worked.
