You know the two cpu tests in 3dmark06? I have never been able to pass 2fps on any dual or quad core. what are the i7's getting? especially oc'ed.
 
I was wondering about that too. I just ran it with my athlon x2 at 2.8 yesterday and thought it was strange.
 
Rendering on the cpu is typically not very fast. Thus the gpu was born.
 
if the core i7 only does 3fps. then I dont feel too bad, I hop to see the day when cpu's will run it at 60fps :)
 
Ha, don't think we'll see the day for that to happen.

But when that smack talking between Nvidia and Intel awhile back when a guy from Nvidia said CPU's won't be needed someday and Intel came out with the Core i7's with them being able to run some games as well as modern day mobile on board video, I wouldn't doubt well see the death of on board video and and see CPU's step up in the video department a good amount in our life time.

But yes, it's meant to be seriously low rendering on the CPU.
