Well if you saw in real life then go back and test out some stuff on it (use different resolutions and what not) Play some fast action games to see if it responds how you like (if you plan on playing game that is.) If it's a friend's then should be no problem to do that, and most stores will let you try some stuff out on the monitors they have on display.

I just mentioned the Dell because it's a hundred dollars cheaper and it seems to be all the rave for alot of people here. Or used to be. It also looks pretty nice and will work on an Apple since it's DVI. But it doesn't have FireWire ports like the ACD does.

im still choosing but the apple 30 is HUGE!! massive i love a mssive lcd. + equipping a SFF to it or mac-mini

yeah I'd really love to have one too. But had to settle for a 20.3 inch which is still quite nice. But when I win the lottery you better believe I'll be buying a 30incher from somewhere.

oh lol well theres a con , mac mini doesnt fit in 30inch apple displays as in it they both wont work , i dont care still getting it.

I'd like to see some 'real world' shots of this monitor if anyone has any - there aren't any apple stores around here and noone else keeps them, and you can't tell anything from silly cutout promo shots.

btw would it still be worth getting one of these - I mean what with the price drop is it likely they'll introduce something new anytime soon?

I find the 30" way too big for monitor to much eye scolling/panning when it's right in front of you and then you have the whole issue of some unsupported gaming and the video card(s) to be able to drive it adequatly need x-fire/SLI or 7950GX2..

24" is just about perfect or 23" in apples case. Get the 23" apple it's the bomb and S-IPS just like the 30".

If you don't have to have apple the forthcoming NEC 2690 looks very interesting 26", fast 5ms, 92% adobe color gamet...

If you have patientence I'm sure apple will make a 24", 26" and 30" dispalys based on LG Philips new fast AS-IPS's as they always tend to use the best. Maybe wait? Should'nt be long.

Also even if you have heart set on 30" the Apple 30" is getting kinda old tech at this point it's slow and while offering awesome color it could offer more color saturation like the new LM300WQ1 of 92% ... I gurantee you apple will make a new 30" very soon.

sorry to go off on a tangent but it really infuriates me how apple simply ignore problems with their products. The 23" ACD for instance - how many millions of years have people been complaining about pink casts yellow tints etc etc....and have they done anything? If the apple support forums are anything to go by not a damn thing.
I can't stand such arrogance - they charge more yet they deliver less :/

I've played around with the 30" monitor at an Apple store and think its the stupidest thing out there right now. Its way to big to use for surfing the web or playing games. It might be great for playing dvds but I'd rather just get a new tv.

If you want decent FPS and a large screen go for a 24" 1920x1200 screen or a 37" 1920x1080 screen (I've owned both, I love my 37")

All i can say is from all the apple displays 20-30" that i have seen are better then anything.

The ACD 30" and the 3007wfp both use the same panel LM300W01. You'll notice their specs are identical:
http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...onitor_3007wfp?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~section=specs

And ignore the "30inch is too big" comments :) If you were in front of one, played around with it, and love it then there is no reason not to get one. Except price. And availability. and up coming products :D

The new HP 30" thats coming out is LG's refresh to the LM300W01, the LM300WQ1. So it should perform better but who knows. It should come out at $1999 by the end of next month. Regardless if you want the Cinema display or the HP or even the Dell I'd wait for the HP to come out to drop prices.

To be honest the single reason I'm interested in the ACD is for its design, that's not to say I hate the others but I do like the apple design most.

Here are a few pics I took when I got the display back in June:

I've been very happy with this display, no mentionable problems with it. With HDCP support and lower price Dell 3007 is much better buy though considering quality-price ratio.
Damn that's a pretty thing. Btw, nice to notice a fellow Finn with a giant display. I have the Dell 3007 myself and love it to death. Certainly not as awesome looking as the ACD but it's not ugly.

Heya, it's nice to meet a fellow Finn here. :)

The bad thing with ultra high resolution display is that it makes you upgrade rest of your stuff to get enjoyable experience out of it. After gaming in 2560x1600 there's absolutely no way back now, and that's bad news on your bank account. Even 1920x1200 seems somehow ...insufficient... now.

Well I'm probably going to wait till january before I get anything, which I suppose is worth it anyway for DX 10 cards
