We're on the verge of replacing almost all of our workstations, so it looks like now's the time to push for virtualized desktops. I'm familiar with vSphere and am planning on virtualizing my servers to a VMware environment in the near future, so View easily caught my eye.

Any thoughts on the PCoIP experience and View overall?
 
we have a few PCoIP devices connecting to vm view, no problems really for day to day PC use, if users start to try watching videos and stuff of course performance is down but what dya expect?
 
Wouldn't it make more sense, in terms of scalability and management, to use virtualized termservers instead or virtualized workstations, what big advantages does View bring over TS?

Ever managed a larger TS or Citrix XenApp farm for general user access and not hardset specific apps?

Do your users connect via the LAN or is it over a WAN connection? I was hoping to avoid the choppiness in video over the LAN, but maybe that's wishful thinking. Obviously I'd prefer that the users have the most workstation-like experience possible.

Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a test zero client?

PCoIP should let you do smooth video if it supports your codecs. We have some solid customers using it and they love it. Go work with a local good VMware partner. They can loan or get your demo clients.

Also, there is more than you'd think to correctly architecting a good VDI environment. People mess that up all the time so if you have never done it get help.

How many users?
 
We have just under 40 users. That's a good idea to find some local help with this. Any best practices or documentation you'd recommend I go over for a starting place?
 
Our test group is 100 users. internal and external thin clients using view connector. only real problem is pebkac. users open multiple instances taking up to many licenses. one other issue we have seen is vm's stop provisioning properly. It takes a few days for this to occur. A restart of the view service resolves the issue. We've included service restart as a daily task, and no issue since.
