I have been offered a free license for Sunbelt Vipre Antivirus through work. Does anyone use is that uses FAH? Is it going to screw with my SMP and GPU folding? Does it go easy on resources like it says?

You're the [H]orde so try first and ask later ;)

Well, so far so good. I set it up last night. I am not sure if it did much for my PPD. I think it freed up a few cycles compared to Avast. My PPD on my SMP went from 1180 to 1184. Not exactly a huge bump or anything, but at least that proves it is lean.

We will see what happens when the SMP tries to upload and download a new unit. I told it to ignore what goes on in the FAH folders on my computer. See if that works better than NOD 32 ignoring.

As long as you don't smell smoke and the computer is still folding all must be well. ;)

Update. I am an idiot.

I had FahMon set to calculate PPD based on All Frames. When I went in to change that to last 3 frames my PPD obviously went up quite a bit.

So, with Avast as my AV, in the SMP, project 2665 was getting me 1180 PPD (set to All Frames for months, so probably pretty accurate)
With Sunbelt Vipre, in the SMP, project 2665 is getting me 1320 (Set to last 3 frames.)

Is this an accurate indicator of a faster SMP based on changing Anti-Virus? Should I be excited about the extra 140 PPD just by changing that software or am I seeing a red herring by not calculating the PPD in the same way?

I know a lot of people use some kind of monitoring program but mostly they just keep you up to date about whether your clients are healthy or at least running.

Your concern should be actual PPD based on the actual stats. Here is your page:

http://www.hardfolding.com/fh_stats/index.php?pz=102&tnum=33&id=588985

The really nice thing is you can see what happens by the day, week, month etc. and because the point values keep changing, and the value of a work unit may or may not be equated to how long it took you to fold you can see the peaks and valleys.

About your AV program, I doubt it will change your stats very much over the long run. Browsing the net will eat more points than the AV program.;)
