I'm looking into VoIP but don't know much about it....has anyone tried it? Is the quality any good?

Recommended providers?

Edit:

Hmm, seems www.vonage.com is the way to go right now....the rates seem pretty good...its like 5 cents a minute to call most places in the world and for $35/mo you can call unlimited in the states and canada. $14 for 500 mins

Beats my current $50 phone bill.

If the $50 comes from talking with a few select people, I would recommend something free like Skype, so you can just use your computer to call them. We use it to talk to my dad who lives in Finland at the moment and to a lesser extent my brother at college. It works for us, and is free. Of course a computer must be on for it to work, but we have it on a laptop in a computer room, so it is not draining very much power or keeping anyone awake at night.

I've got Vonage and it rocks. Multiple phone numbers in different area codes, unlimited free long distance, the works.

Here at work, all the phones are IP based.

Reasonably good overall, there seems to be a very slight delay though.

Hmm, I might try vonage....only problem is I have DSL....don't really know how that's going to work...I guess I have to pay for an phone line anyway. I think that with Vonage it would still be cheaper...I have the call intercept and caller ID and all that which brings my bill up to $52 a month. The verizon service here seems to be a ripoff.

I was reading that wish vonage you could just take the box to a hotel in like hong kong, connect to broadband in your room and people will be able you call you as if you never left. That's just awesome.

I gotta figurue out how much the cheapest phone line with verison is. I don't want to get rid of speakeasy DSL...they are just too good. Cox cable modem here SUCKS!
