I'm sure some of you have, maybe even all of you, the Sony LCD monitors with Xbrite technology. I have to say that they are absolutely AMAZING! They have the brightest, clearest, best picture I have ever seen on an LCD, or any monitor at that! Has anyone seen them up close? I saw one at best buy, and, again, I was absolutely awe-struck, I couldn't get my eyes off it! It's like $449 for the silver 17 inch model (the one I saw) and I am totally willing to pay for one of those! You have to see it to beleive it. I honestly would rather have that monitor than any other any-sized monitor (even bigger than 19 inches)

yes they do have there advantages and are awsome on the eyes,

They have a very glossy coating which is what x-brite is. You will see your reflection in it almost as clearly as a mirror. The screen scratches very easily also and fingerprints raise hell on it.

If these dont bother you then yes they are very good

i'll never understand how anyone can like their monitors with a mirror finish  but even more so, how anyone comes up with the idea to make them. you would think the manufacturers (like sony no less) would know better.

( angry engineer at sony: " hey i hate people, let's make a glossy monitor and make them all go blind ! mwuahahahaaaa...! " ) :D

i have one and love it

if you cant get past the "mirror finish" then there's something wrong with you. just dont pay attention to it, it's that easy. same goes for dead pixels, dont pay attention to them.

That shiny coat is a very good thing made by enginners.

It makes the displays revolutional, just like the trinitron did to Tv sets in the 70's

This is what sony does

oh hey i'll be the first one to admit there's a lot wrong with me :D but really - how can you ignore a glare off of your monitor ?!?!? (and no, I can't stand dead pixels; and I also can't stand aperture grille wires among other things. so there  )

I have one and it has it's advantages and disadvantages. Apparently something in the glossy finish doesn't like to stay connected to the sides very well, which produces some eventual backlight issues for most people.

The monitor doesn't really have any glare...not sure where that seems to be coming from. Maybe you're seeing some in CompUSA where they have a lot of flueorecensent lights hanging overhead, but in my room with a normal overhead light and lamp I see nothing. I had a CRT up until a December at it had 10X more glare than this monitor does.

One thing it does have a little more of than it should is ghosting in games. The XBrites are 16ms or 12ms and they ghost more than some 25ms screens I've seen. Granted they're better than 90% of LCD's...it's still worse than it should be at that speed.

Yeah, I noticed that glossiness as well, didn't bother me, as I am used to normal televisions with their gloss finish. It's not that I don't pay attention to it, it's that I just don't notice it while I'm paying attention to the actual picture on the screen! Man, I am so gonna get one of those....*drooling*

they are nice, ur right there....however, the price out of my wallent doesnt sustane the fact that I will buy one.
