Or it was something similar....can't remember the exact name....

Well anyway, one came in a pre-built system a friend of mine bought years ago, before I was savy enough in game machine building to do one for him myself. I recall we bought him another card shortly after as we discovered it had extremely crappy OpenGL support.
(which was what all the good games back then were mostly using)

So flash forward to this weekend. We are sitting around at a local bar bullshitting and whatnot and somehow this topic came up. He INSISTED that it was made by matrox, and I keep telling him he is drunk and doesnt know wtf he is talking about. I am positive it was made by company that kinda fell off the 3d gaming map shortly there after.

I googled a bit but couldnt get anything concrete. HELP ME DEFEND MY DORKISH PRIDE. I build all the machines for my friends these days and he is just a drunk idiot. I promise I know it all.........I think?

Thanks!

That's me, nearly eidetic memory for useless info, just don't ask me to remember anything that actually matters.

My brother still has that card sitting on the shelf. He bought it for his SGI 1600SW, it's still a great monitor, but it cost him over $2500 when he first bought it.

they dead now.

anyone remember neomagic????

i bet thats a name few know. lol

I remember neomagic, my laptop had one of those video cards in them..

While we are at it, how about Tseng Labs.. the ET6000 was the fastest DOS card ever made.

Or advance logic (not advanced) another no longer around video chipset brand.

First google came up with page titled Number Nine Visual Technologies, but went to casino site, lol.

Found this though... http://www.google.com/search?q=Numb...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

i had that exact card... first video card i ever had that could do accelerated graphics. It was wicked in 2d but shit for 3d and i swapped it with a velocity 100.

i remember being pretty excited about it when i bought it though. Got it like 2 months before I even had a computer, then I bought a comp without an agp port and a cyrix proc, then another 3 months till i had one with agp and could finally try it.

I actually got an Advance Logic card from a friend. I don't remember the exact specs, but I think it has 4 MB of RAM. It works very well in Win98. Don't ask about OpenGL/Direct3d support, though :p

Or how about the Savage4! 32MB when 8MB was in style.

The Savage was an S3 design (if I remember right) Via owns them now, and via chipsets with integrated video still use a decendant of this chip. (talk about staying power.. the savage decended from the virge... at least in some small part, and they are still around)

virge.................what crap.

i had a virge dx 4 meg.... i shiver when i think of that card.

C'mon, at least admit that those cards were capable of things the current generation still can't, such as decelerating 3D-graphics.

Still got mine. The rig it was in was a PPro 180, 64MB EDO RAM and a pair of Fast/Wide 2GB SCSI drives (later upgraded to an 18.2GB and a pair of 9GB Baracudas). When I first went to college back in '96, running Linux on it, this machine was not only faster than the Suns the CS department had but it also RAN IN COLOR!!!!

(granted, they were a little behind the curve with their CS hardware)

Great cards, I gave mine to my Brother in law, who gave it to his Dad.. as far as I know it is still being used.

Did you have one with 2mb, 2.25mb or 4mb of ram? (yes 2.25mb, that would give it enough ram to run in 2d one resolution higher at full color than the 2mb one.. I think 1024x768, but I might be wrong on the actual res.) It used that funky MDRAM.. big square chips. http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.6/tseng12.html

This thread makes me think back to 8th grade when I saw a $50,000 ~18" Monitor attached to a $50,000 computer.... It had 256bit color back in the days when only the most expensive personal PC's had 16bit color.... I've been hooked on uber-graphics performance ever since.

My dell latitude CPi still has a neomagic card in it, 8MB hehe, hardly plays command and conquer original.

I remember. Was a great card! I mostly used Virge cards at the time... or for that decade.
