anyone remember the 9500-9700 hack?

man that was quite a saga, and it was pretty damn cool, i remember the day the story broke i orderd one of the 9500's with the 9700 board and tried the hack but i was one of the unlucky ones that had that damn checkerboard effect

did anyone ever figure out what was causing it? some people had it and other did not
 
You mean what caused the checkerboard effect? Damaged pixel pipelines in the R300 core- 9700Pro had eight, 9500Pro disabled four of them.

it was never known if that was the cause, i remember people saying that there could have been legal problems for ATI if it was discoverd they were selling damaged GPU's like that?
