I'm looking into starting to play some sort of sandbox mmo. Eve sounds great but I am worried about the direction it is heading with microtransactions and the fact that it seems late to start a game where the skill points are based on time played. Also the combat in Eve seems, to me, relatively unexciting.

This drew my attention to the relatively new game Perpetuum Online which seems to have recently gained a number of Eve refugees who are mad about Incarna and microtransactions and looking for a change after many years.

I'm interested to see if anyone here plays the game and what you think about it.

Microtransactions are the future in any MMO, just in case you weren't aware of that.

I have played Perpetuum and in my opinion it's not worth the subscription price. There are better F2P MMOs out there. I know a number of people who have raged on the forums about EVE and how they will unsub and go to PO, but at the end of the day they are all still in EVE because PO is not a viable alternative.

Having said that, it's what $15 for the first month? Just try it out yourself, you probably have blown $15 on less important stuff before. ;)
