Hi all,
does anyone own a s27a850d? What do you think about it? I am considering getting one mainly for use on windows applications, office etc

I cant stand the anti glare on my u2711, and have seen reviews indicating this is a viable alternative....

Thanks!

If you really like the U2711 in every way other than the AG coating, and if you are even the slightest bit handy, you could remove the AG coating on the Dell yourself. It might even be less hassle overall than selling it and buying the Samsung.

I think he returned the U2711.

Quite a few [H]'ers have one. I have a bunch of videos on my youtube channel which shows the S27A850D calibrated and uncalibrated next to a few different displays. This video has the best explanation about the colour presets:

I was thinking about removing the coating, saw lots of the videos, however also saw lots about how the monitor was destroyed a few months later when dust or dirt got to the screen. Not worth the risk.

Never heard of that. Dust and dirt can be easily cleaned off a panel. How would it "destroy" the monitor?

I had that monitor. The 850D that is. Its a good monitor. And you will love the non-AG coating on it. Its much much clearer for text than anything from Dell or HP. Played BF3 on it and it was fine. I had to sell mine because at 2560x1440 games need some serious hardware and I didn't want to go SLI so I went back to 1920x1200. But its a good monitor all around really..

Yeah it's really good quality and 1440p resolution. Playing BF3 on it was really smooth and responsive.

Before I got the Eizo FS2332, I bought one because I can't stand the IPS antiglare coating. Absolutely dreadful stuff when most of your work is based around white backgrounds.

I agree its fine for gaming though I could notice the input lag. Not really a problem since I don't really game that much but it was definitely there. The model I got had some pretty dreadful backlight bleeding at the bottom where the monitor controls are found...apparently the panel/monitor build quality was not that great which is fairly believable since I haven't used any monitor that was so flimsy before. What happened to professional displays that were built like tanks? The newer LED backlit Dell Ultrasharps are much better but still flex fairly easily.

I ultimately returned it because of the backlight bleeding. Its a good monitor, which isn't saying too much since takes a lot to make something like this bad, just a shame they didn't pick a more conservative chassis design or flatten out the PLS issues before release.
