Anyone Noticing a pattern?

I dont know if its just me, but lately ive been noticing through various threads on various fourms that many people have had lots of problems with the Geforce 6800 Ultra and GT. Is this round because they are trying to push them out so fast that they are prone to more errors? Anyone else noticed this? or is always been a problem with video cards and i just noticed it because i have GT in the mail?

(I sure hope this doesnt turn into an ATI Fanboy thread.. GET ATI!! IT ROXORZ J00R B0X0RZ!)

I dont care which card is better.. im just making a statement and was wondering if anyone else was noticing it ?

well..... that can happen sometimes... maybe with like Gigabyte or somebody on a motherboard or something.. But with ATI and NVidia.. the 2 leading companies in their areas.. they cant affort to make mistakes and they dont normally. If there are any errors, it is just because the cards are new, and any new card will experience bugs, etc. right off the bat. I very much doub tthough that Nvidia, OR ATI would knowingly send out defective or defect-prone products

What are you talking about? The VAST majority of users have gotten along just fine. You're just seeing more 'Nvidia Problems' threads becuase the GT is selling like hotcakes. More people with more cards = more threads about said cards.

I think its cuz more people simply own the 6800GT/6800U on this forum, hence there will be more problems. Also, many are switching from ATI to Nvidia this round which can cause driver conflicts.

My thoughts exactly... 9/10 problems recently have been because the user didnt clean out the drivers correctly... I use Driver Cleaner myself...

Havent had a problem... been running my GT for over a month now and play Doom3 @ 1600x1200 on High with AA and AF on! At ultra speeds on High Quality of course

Yeah I have to agree here...the X800 users are just outnumbered...so naturally there are more 6800 problems...and as was stated above...mostly just driver issues which are easily fixable...

umm upgrading an nvidia card shouldnt need a driver cleanout..

exactly what is ultra speeds? LOL...

^ I think these are the number one reasons. And use driver cleaner to get out those old driver files they leave behind you will diffently get better results after that.

It makes sense.. and your right the ratio of cards sold/cards broke is probably really small.
i have read a few blown caps threads and stuff like that.. im just freaking out because my card will be here in like 8 hours and i seem to have the greatest luck with hardware

I wouldn't worry about it. Probably some isolated issues, that can be resolved quickly. But out of curiosity, which GT card did you get?

Don't forget that people rarely if ever will post that things are working fine, there's simply no need. 100000 cards could get sold via the different companies, lets say that 200 are bad. Now you have 200 reports of this card sucks, I hate nVidia, etc and even less wee I love this card etc. 200 / 100000 = 0.2%, is that really a bad failure rate? No, it just looks that way because bad news travels faster and further than good news.

I agree witht that. On another note, when you push your card to the max by OCing the wee wee out of it, you could damage it. I personally don't want to risk $400 to get maybe 5-10 more fps out of the card. I learned this lesson the hard way with my Celeron 500 and Voodoo5 5500 (man was that a sweet card at the time). I started messing with overclocks and even when I underclocked it, it still had random freezing errors.

Right, my BFG 6800GT OC is working great, but I normally wouldn't post about it because that would be bragging. I post my benchmark scores, but that's about it. I had no problems uninstalling the old Nvidia driver, and putting the new one in. When I play D3, the fps is pegged at 60 and looks great on high detail.

more and more 6800's wont run right all over the front page..

So everyone who's GT is running perfectly should start posting daily updates on how sweet the card is? Come on, this one-man anti-6800 crusade of yours is getting old. There aren't any x800 problem threads because there are about 10 people on these forums that have one. There's atleast triple that number of GTs.

There you go elvis, check that link out, that puts the x800 at what, a 10% failure rate on these boards...lol

I agree too.

I agree because I also just purchased a new nVidia product and I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival :D

More people have it, more people have problems with it.

man give it up and stop being so bitter. the x800pro you got is a good card, let the 6800gt be ffs.

Where in the hell is Fedex? They are usually here by now. I haven't stayed home waiting for hardware in a long time. Maybe if I quit getting up every 2 minutes to look out the window and stopped with the coffee it might be an easier wait. NOT! :D

And yes, the X800 is a very rocking card. What the heck is everyone bitching about it for? It hauls major a$$ in DirectX 9, and ATi will probably improve the Doom support. You need to be more patient in waiting for the drivers.

Like me. Patient.

Excuse me, I heard a noise. I'd better go look out the window for a second :)

Well, I have had my 6800GT for a few days and once I solved my cooling issues, it runs perfectly fine. I upgraded from a 9700 and while my 9700 was (and still is) a great card, there is no denying that the 6800 is substantially better. :D

omg check out on fox news there is a fedex strike today! lol!

edit: just goofin on ya caffe :p

from what I can tell, the biggest issue with the 6800GT's is that there aren't enough of them :p

and this coming from a happy X800 pro owner, but I will say I am impressed with nvidia's offering this time around.

i think you are also seeing a lot of "my 6800gt is broken" on these forums because 6800GTs have gotten such a good reception among this crowd. so, a lot of people buy them and there are, naturally, a greater number of problems. however, you must keep in mind that this does not imply a greater per capita number of problems.

man.....that coming from you is lol'able dude. your one of the biggest ATI bashers here.

I have a BFG 6800 GT OC @ 428/1110 and I've never had ONE problem.

:D

Exactly, people dont post to complain that thier video cards run great.
There is a tremendous number of satisfied 6800 owners on these boards but of course all the people are gonna focus on are those that have problems ati fanbois especially  .
I would say only a handfull are actuall problems with the cards the rest are due to the user or the machine its run in(how anyone here could put a high end vid card in a case with no ventilation is beyond me).
the only ones that i would call 'build errors' are the pny junk but thats nothing new for PNY. and a few bfg OCs that dont run at thier rated OC speeds...

Please point out any thread where I "bashed" ATI.

Note bashing != debating with facts, evidence, or common sense.

I know my card is running well now, first bios flash killed it, but it was resurrected via dos flash and pci gf2 mx. Now it's running happily at 428/1.11 ghz

Ok let's get one thing straight...it's ok for ME to be a fanboy...but when anyone else does it...it's BS...:)
