I have a msi neo 2 plat
AMD 64 3200
Kingston 512 hyper X
450W power Watt
EVGA 6800
had the 6800 for about 1 and a half week ok now all of the sudden out of no where my comp is shutting off by its self it never did this before,. anyone have any solutions?
 
power supply maybe...

isn't a 480 watt recommened? also you didnt list a brand name....if the power supply is some 20 dollar no name, I'd bet that a new power supply is in order....
 
my power supply is fine i think its some sort of virus but AVG or trend micro is not picking up any its ATX 450 all chrome its a good supply

Gonna need brand and maybe even a spec sheet. Little bit more info other than your opinion on it. ;)
 
how's the power in your house in general? cuz if your voltage isn't very steady, the machine might randomly reboot...

have you tried putting it on a UPS to see if it helps?
 
pic of power supply label? Brand name? And if it doesn't have a spec sticker on it (showing the max loads for each rail) then it is definately junk, go buy a quality unit and get rid of that one..... every time I lose a PSU, it starts acting like that, then after awhile the PC will not turn on and I have to "jumpstart" it, a somewhat tricky procedure I came up with that I can post in the Power Supplies forum if anyone is curious.....
 
Quite frankly, many of the best LOOKING psu's, are also the absolute shittiest psu's..

Give us a name brand and a model # on that puppy..

The single most under-estimated part in a PC is the PSU as previous posters have alluded to. Check your rails with a voltmeter if you can, you can get one for under $10.00. Also, check your temps.

If all checks out, then it maybe software related ie. virus or spyware. The best tools to detect this I have found are Norton Antivirus and MS Antispyware(beta but still better than spybot, adaware, and spysweeper).
 
how long is it from the time you turn it on till it cuts off, if it is random then something may be going bad
 
You can still get lucky sometimes, I have a good "Mad Dog" 500w PSU (The Crappy CompUSA brand) that I bought for my home file server.
The rails are all steady, the wires are pre-sleeved, it has two speed controllable fans built in, and a special "AGP/HDD" Molex connector just for the video card that has a rail all to its self.
Its major overkill for a file server with a 1.3Ghz Athlon XP, and an ATi Rage 128 PCI video card, but it was the lowest wattage PSU CompUSA had! :eek:
