i'm starting an online business of sorts and i need some kind of ecommerce software (ie. magento) that allows certain users with special privileges to upload their own storefronts

open to any and all suggestions. preferably free/open source but if there's a paid service that excels i'm not entirely opposed ;)

thanks

edit: just noticed my signature from like 2006. talk about nostalgia :p

Decent hosts with ecomm packages are in the range of $5-20 per month. A sticky thread has plenty to choose from. Sign up for a trial, sometimes for free, and tinker away to build something that works for you.

i'm already stuck with hostgator which comes with the following

Magento
Noah's Quicksell Classifieds
phpCOIN
PrestaShop
SugarCRM
TomatoCart
vtiger CRM
ZenCart

i just don't know where to begin :( there's so many choices out there

Is this a complaint, or a general statement that you have chosen "hostgator"?
- If the former, then realize that a hosting contract is not a marriage.
- If its the latter, then you'll need to tinker and see what E-Comm package(s) you prefer and work for your (currently) undisclosed needs -- and also see the difference between a CRM and E-Comm application.

no complaints. i just mean that i already have hosting through them for almost another year so i might as well use it.

i admittedly know very little about e-comm packages (obviously) but my only need is that i would like to start with one that allows users besides the admin to upload their own store.

i like magento, but it doesn't have this feature by default and i'm having trouble finding an extension that adds this functionality. i did manage to find this extension which comes close, but it only seems to let users upload single items so there has to be a better solution

i actually did manage basic vendor capabilities just now using a combination of drupal, and the ubercart and ubercart marketplace extensions.

this will probably do just fine as my starting point for tinkering, but if anyone else has any recommendations i'd appreciate it.
