Anyone here using Cooler Master R4's ?

they move very nice air at full speed (1900 RPM) but don't you think they are a bit loud?

I don't think they're loud at all.

Your alternatives are the Gentle Typhoons, or just slower fans.

I think your best bet will still be the Gentle Typhoons. They can be had for around $13 each.

For $23 each you can do a hell of a lot better than those things. The Gentle Typhoons that Tsumi suggested are the most convenient option, but if you want to spend $23 per fan...
Sanyo Denki 9S1212L401 (48cfm, 17dB)
Sanyo Denki 9S1212M401 (59cfm, 24dB)
Sanyo Denki 9S1212F401 (71cfm, 30dB- use it with a fan controller if you want quiet, but they're surprisingly unobtrusive even at full speed)

You'll also need these:
MOLEX 08-50-0114 Crimp Terminals ($0.11ea, 3 per fan)
MOLEX 22-01-3037 Connector Housing ($0.22ea, 1 per fan)
...and needlenose pliers or a crimper.

Also, Newark is set up to sell to other businesses more than they are to individuals; they don't give you an exact price for shipping until the item has already shipped. Expect about $10-15 for a few fans depending on how you have them shipped.


If that's too much hassle for you though, the Gentle Typhoons are almost as good in most respects and they're cheaper. I wouldn't bother with a $23 fan that has a "Twister Bearing" and LEDs though.
