I was wondering what MP3 player do you guys use? I don't really like bringing the more expensive ones. I'm afraid that I might bump into an alien and then drop it.

Pick up an MP3 player that's relatively small and uses flash memory. Or, get an armband to use along with your current MP3 player.

FWIW, I've recently switched from the 2nd gen. iPod nano to the Sansa Clip+. It's available for $70 or less (depending on storage capacity) and, in addition to having onboard flash memory, it also uses micro SDHC cards.

I bought a few of those refurb Sansa mp3 players for like $15 for 2GB (with a microSD expansion port).

Battery life is very long and I like it a lot. I did abuse one really bad and the 3.5mm jack port makes alot of noise. But oh well it was only $15 and serve a good year.

You won't bump into them on the ground, they hover above your head and and use a gravity beam to pull you into their ship. I suggest getting a tether so your MP3 player doesn't fall to the ground while ascending. Also make sure you have some Adam Lambert songs on your MP3 for mood music during the ..... probings.

Aah, it looks a little bulky, I try not to clip it and just put it inside my jacket.

Granted, the built-in clip adds some unnecessary bulk, but you can easily fit it inside your jacket.

I happen to be in the market for an mp3 player for running also. I'd like to have a small clip on mp3 player like the ipod shuffle, except not an ipod of course.

The Sansa Clip+ seems a bit bulky. I'd really like to be able to clip it onto my shirt or an armband. Size-wise would this still be recommended?

I also looked at the Creative Zen Stone, but the clip looks crappy. I could live with an armband, but I'm not keen on the idea. I rather like to run loose and unrestricted and I fear that this would not jive.

Anyone know of some generic small mp3 clip player? I wouldn't even need to be above 512mb.

Check out eBay for "generic" MP3 players.

The Sansa Clip+ isn't bulky. Even with the non-removable clip in the back, it's one of the smaller MP3 players in the market. I'm personally using it and I like it for the features that it has, primarily the ability to use microSD cards.

@ people saying the clip is bulky, yes it is, if you are a pygmy.

For a human being it is tiny, even more thin if you remove the clip. It is also extremely light, it barely registers as a weight at all.

Sounds nicer, has a screen for easier navigation, looks better (that's right, I went there.. as long as you do not choose an ugly color - bo black or that mirror silver)

plays more formats, except the itunes format, so what, convert them to mp3 or anything else if you have a collection there.

Aight, I bought the Sansa Clip+ 2GB. Frankly, I've been spoiled running with Oakley's mp3 glasses, but indoor and at night is a bit tough. Hopefully Sansa Clip+ beats using a binder clip on my ancient mp3 player.

Update. Bought the sansa clip + on 26Dec09, it quickly went downhill. It seems that putting force on the screen of the player in order to clip it to something was not thoroughly thought out. Anyone else have this problem?

It's dead now. I never even ran with the thing. I was only using it in the gym, which I did enjoy. I snagged a velcro armband and it of course clipped on without any bother. Given the right armband I would say this thing would be great for running. Although, it's a bit too big to clip onto your shirt unless you're throwing down spandex.

I can't say I'm in love with the position of the earphone jack. Considering the clip factor, I had anticipated direction not being something I had to take into consideration. Trying to clip the little bugger to my velcro strap while being able to view the lcd screen and the headphone jack not being a pain in the ass wasn't optimal. Not sure what the fix would be that would appease everyone, but I didn't really feel like the Clip function was any more useful than to clip on your waistband. Which for me is a bit odd. Why put a tiny lcd screen on a player that you have clipped to your waistband?

I would have liked to have seen the track change where the volume controls were. When I'm in the middle of a workout, I'm not too much about adjusting volume, but I do like to skip through a few songs without accidentally hitting 5 other buttons nearby. I suppose the opposite can be argued, but to me that's more for large mp3 players. I can see dedicated volume controls on a portable device you are dedicating your attention to, but not one you are trying to forget about.

So now I'll be testing out the warranty process.

Back to my old IAudio 5. If the IAudios were half the thickness I think I wouldn't buy anything else. The new IAudio 6/7 look great if they had slimmed them down a bit. For a workout, I don't care for more than 2GB, and would much rather see a slimline version.

Wow, those are some serious issues with the Sansa clip. I've been using my for several years and have had zero issues. I clip it to my shirt collar usually. I've even clipped to the bottom of a sleeve and it worked ok. I've also not even noticed an issue with pressing the clip. The front is pretty sturdy and shouldn't be an issue when pressing on the clip. Sorry you had such an issue, but mine has been rock solid since the day I got it.

Wow... I haven't had that problem with my Sansa Clip+ (with the screen). Personally, I wish that the clip was removable (as in the previous generation/model) and the headphone jack was at the top of the device, but those weren't deal-breakers for me.

But I digress; metalsmart, tell us how the RMA process goes.

RMA was quick, almost too quick. I was multitasking and the guy closed the chat and I had a paid shipping label in my inbox before I even got back to seeing what ctrl+v messages he was speaking.

So that part is cool. Paid UPS shipping to the RMA facility with what they estimate at a 10 day turn around. I'm not in country right now, so I have to send it stateside first, so the time doesn't start until i actually get it into the mail system.

One note for any Sansa owners, I would go to the website and check for firmware updates. Before the guy even asked me to power the thing on, plug it in or anything, he linked me the firmware update process. Methinks there are a few quirks out there.

I'm not much for keeping receipts or anything. I threw everything but the player away. So, I mailed the dead hunk of plastic off in a cardboard envelope = $0.76. We'll see what I receive back.
