Anyone hardware VOLT mod their Ultra?

And, if you did volt mod (not in BIOS), what kind of clocks can you get on the card? I am currently working through this process, and I was wondering if anyone else had done so.

I have my card set up my card so that it will use 1.560, 1.660, and 1.760 by flashing the card and selecting 1.3,1.4,and 1.5V. So, no POT, just a resistor mod. I have also ordered a DD block for the card, so I will put everything back together very soon. I will have numbers for the weekend, and I was curious if anyone else had done these changes.
 
i never heard of anyone hardmod the voltages... the bios tricks seems to work just fine... if you need more volts.. just bump it up a notch... say.... if your at 1.5.. but it's not enough.. go for 1.6.. easy as that..
 
I think its more 1337 to do a pencil mod or whatever its called :confused:

You're the only person I've seen who says they own a 6800 Ultra extreme. Or is that a GT or Ultra at UE speeds?

It's actually a real UEE. Monarch Computer was selling them for $599.00. So, I bought a couple. I think they realized their mistake a little later, since a few days after mine arrived, they were no longer for sale. Seems they were supposed to be for system builds only, but found their way onto their retail site. I gave up on ever getting selected in the "right to buy" lottery at evga.com.

And, the BIOS mod gives decent voltage, but the OVP does not kick in until 1.77V. The BIOS gives around 1.525 V by spec, but measured in DROOP, it is really around 1.49V. So, I am putting a resistor in place to add the additional .24 volts. So, if I edit the BIOS, it will have the following effect:

1.3 in bios = about 1.560 Vcore at the desktop
1.4 in bios = about 1.660 Vcore at the desktop
1.5 in bios = about 1.760 Vcore at the desktop

I have done the pencil mod, but I wanted something more permanent, and more exact. If you mulitmeter the pencil mod, the the stock 8.04K ohms can go down to around 7.40K ohms (with a stock 1.4 V BIOS). I usually set it for around 7.50K, which would give me close to 1.72 V with the 1.5 BIOS. I would have to add a little more to get it close to 1.77, but the OVP happens on demanding sections of the benchmark programs. With the 1.7ish mod, I have had the card to 520/1340. I just want it to be a little more exact, and easy to enable (simple BIOS flash).

Oh well, my short term goal with the system was to break into the 90's in Aquamark 3 with only watercooling. I will have to see if this is possible after I get the card back into the system. Next project, SLI ;)
