Anyone got shadowrun on PC?

Anyone know how to compare your career stats to other people? Or even to access career W/L or KDR?

There are no stats pages for this game. You only have the round by round totals. No leader boards mean no hacking them to be number one. Which is OK in my book. However, if PC can run dedicated servers I bet someone could come up with a stat program if the community is active enough for this game. And is sucks that I cant adjust the mouse more :-(

not sure if there are a bunch of hard 360 or pc players playing as of yet.
But id love to get a weekly 4v4 or 5v5 setup of shadowrun so we don't have to play random pub matches.

Organization is so much more fun.

gimme a shout in private if you'd like or just respond to the thread.

Live gamertag is Z04L0RD
we could throw up a memberslist and schedule up on the site i run allping.net so to keep it semi organized as to what players are on what teams.

So far I've enjoyed the raid game type to setup and defend instead of the first elf with speed boost making it to the flag and running off with it.

There should be stat pages... they probably don't want to show the differences between pc and 360 players. Every other 360 game has leaderboards, this game should too.

I have shadowrun on pc but i play 360 on live also

Gamertag = JonnyK

rest of the pictures i took, let me know if you guys want to see anything specific.

Some things i wanted to point out that i've noticed that are really cool little touches to this game :

The ragdolls are really well done and fun
The blood spray effects are a little over the top and awesome, especially if you get a stealth attack with the sword, which causes blood to continuously spray out of your opponents throat until he dies from the wound.
When firing the chain gun or any gun with a smoke / heat effect i'd assume, the heat causes some blurring on your screen when you look through the smoke and looks really nice.

I was seriously unimpressed with the Live integration. After seeing the demonstration way back in last year I had expected a kind of Live Messenger affair where I could log in from the desktop. I thought that people were supposed to be able to see each other on their PC's and invite them into games etc.

As it is the only Live interface is inside the game so you have to load up Shadowrun before you can log into Live through your PC. I had thought it would be like Steam but the reality is that you need something like MSN messenger in order to tell all your friends that you are online and up for a game, then have everyone launch the game separately and find each other there.

What a load of faffing and nonsense!

Off the record, unofficially, I spoke with a Microsoft rep at an AMD event this last week. He said that the only reason the PC dashboard is limited to in games only is because there are so few games that can use it (3 by the end of the year: Shadowrun, Halo2 and Uno). He said that by mid '08 we should see a stand alone dashboard program.

Don't quote me, of course.... ;)

BTW, I will post shots myself a little later...

FYI, anyone that has a Killer Nic card might want to stay away from Live games. Alot of people including myself cannot play this game because microsoft doesnt like that NIC. Gotta love the BS of microsoft.

So I've been playing Shadowrun for the past week or so on the 360 (rental), and last night I got to play the PC version at a friends house. I was excited to try it, because being primarily a PC gamer, I wanted to compare the two. I've also been getting frustrated with the 360 controls - just too slow for my tastes.

After he got it set up, I tweaked a few of the control settings and dove in. It was pure nirvana to be able to mouse-look in this game. Make no mistake, they're not the tightest controls ever concieved, so don't be expecting Quake-esque flick shots or anything. But on the other hand, it's still a huge improvement over using a controller. Now, for the PC version they did incorporate a little bit more weapon inaccuracy to help "balance" things out. Meaning, when you turn fast with the mouse, your crosshair will increase in size just a bit. This does not happen on the 360. It's not too bad though, and it certainly doesn't offset the importance of being able to turn fast. But it is there.

But what it doesn't seem to affect is the katana. Now, I'm not a huge fan of all the katana wielding wanna-be ninjas that infect this game, but when I get this game for the PC, you can damn well bet I'm gonna be using one constantly. Because the ability to move and turn faster than your 360 opponents will be a huge advantage for the katana. Another weapon that benefits greatly from the mouse is the sniper rifle. Since, when you're typically using the sniper rifle you're not moving anyways. And it's just so much easier to aim and get headshots with a mouse.... imo.

Regardless of the little bit of added "spray" for the PC version, I still felt much more in control as compared to the 360 version. Again, like I said, it may be just because I'm more of a PC gamer, espcially when it comes to shooters. But it's hard not to consider having a mouse a definite advantage.

I'll be getting Vista on Tuesday, and Shadowrun will be installing immediately afterwards. I'm psyched. This game rocks.

I'm in your same position and you sir just convinced me to use Partition Magic tonight and install Vista. Thank you.

Is there any mouse lag with the PC copy? Like sluggish or anything like that?

I get a bit of mouse lag if I turn the graphics higher than my comp can handle...kinda strange. But if it's set up right, then there's none.
My biggest complaint is that the servers are really inconsistent, I keep getting dropped every few games (not rounds), and sometimes the "dedicated server" browser can't see them at all.

I here that with the random disconnects. It is annoying. Killer Nic card issues have been fixed as well.

<---Kelbear1 is my gamertag, but I'll be playing Xbox360-side, I'm not going to be purchasing a high-end computer again until the market settles a bit more late this year. But y'know, I don't even want to buy Shadowrun for PC just so I can play it with kb/m when I do get the PC.

The cross-play balance has been very good, we've seen a few Vista users, but they are not distinguished from other players unless you get an achievement for killing or resurrecting them, after that, you can only tell when they tell you over the microphone.

This game does not prove that controllers are equal to kb/m at all. Kb/m is better hands-down IMO. What this game does, and does amazingly well, is provide a distinct and unique style of multiplayer FPS gameplay. You haven't seen this kind of gameplay before. It doesn't play like CS at all, it just has some minor features from it.
The reason why computer and console users are staying equal to each other is because the keyboard advantage is taken away by limiting your available powers like in Guild Wars. You can swap them at will, but you can't just hotkey each one to its own key. You only have 3 slots you can assign powers to. You can carry as many as you like though, and even quick-cast from the menu, but you cannot have it ready to fire in one touch. However, this introduces a new level of skill in speed-power management. Good players can utilize more powers than bad players.

The movement speed, amount of health, inaccuracy, auto-aiming(plus smartlink adds increased auto-aim, even to PC users), all point to a de-emphasis in aiming.

It's less important in how quickly you get the crosshairs on the enemy, and much more important in how you stay out of theirs while still keeping them in yours. This is a refreshing change since that hasn't been emphasized in the genre. So rather than killing with simple fast-response, you rack the kills up with intelligent decision-making and manuevering under pressure. This has been very satisfying to me since killing them with superior aim has gotten pretty dull for me(Been playing multiplayer FPS for more than a decade now). This is a different satisfaction; now I feel that I've won by out-witting them. There is a great deal of depth in how this works out. Teamwork is also at an all-time high, but is also too complicated to simply describe here.

I've got terrific aim with my mouse, but very mediocre aim with the controller, yet I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage here. I was ready to write this game off, but I downloaded the demo on a whim and discovered that I really, really, liked this game. It has distinguished itself from a horde of generic FPS games.

It has /terrible/ review scores, but even the bad reviews always compliment the excellent gameplay. It's the other issues that brought the score down, and I don't dispute them. This game needs more maps(an update is on the way to add more, but when?), it's Vista-only, it requires xbox-live gold to play with the majority of the people who own this game, and it has nerfed kbm/mouse for cross-platform play. I commented on how I liked how the game de-emphasizes aim to accomplish this, but I'm not going to pretend that there are a lot of people who do not want to play an FPS game where their kb/mouse is nerfed.

This is definitely a game where you need to play the demo.
------------------------------------------

To describe how the decision-based combat works out, I'll describe my default build(which is often altered or forgone altogether as the situation merits)

Weapon slot 1: Katana, fastest movement speed when equipped helps me traverse the map quickly. Very high damage, and if I can hit them from behind before they see me it inflict a mortal-wound on the enemy which causes him to gradually bleed to death, so I can retreat if necessary and be reasonably confident he'll die unless a teammate casts Ressurect to stop the bleed out. However, since it's melee only, it's not very useful when the enemy can see you coming and simply backpedal away which reduces the katana's effectiveness.

Weapon slot 2: Sub-machine gun, People run away from katana because it's so dangerous at melee range, so I swap to SMG to kill at close to medium range. If burst-fire is done properly, it's even better at medium range and still usable at long-range(but I tend not to shoot from long-range, instead just following patiently until I can get a katana ambush). SMG is also a light-weight gun so I can chase enemies effectively until they die.

Power slot 1: Teleport. This power is never moved, I need it available in a split-second to dash in for a katana-hit, or to escape. I can teleport through walls forcing them to go around or teleport through after me, but even better is teleporting through the floors and walls, making it much harder to figure out where I've gone. Manuevering with Teleport requires skill and experience since teleport fails when you try to teleport into a solid object. You need to not just see the environment that is within line-of-sight, but also see the environment behind all those walls in your mind so you know where you can teleport to in escapes.

Power slot 2: Enhanced Vision. This power lets you see through walls in pulses, followed by a recharge. This combined with Teleport is a deadly weapon. I can see enemies through a wall, find out which way they're facing, then strike from behind with the katana or SMG. I like to run after them from behind, and toss a grenade in front of them, trapping them between an explosion and my katana.

Power slot 3: Grenades. By default. These are just your standard grenades, but they allow you to control their movement by forcing them to walk around the blast-radius. Plus they can be left around corners to blow up chasing enemies, setting them up for a counter-attack if they're not already dead.

Gust is often quick-swapped into Power slot 3, Strangle may be also be quick-swapped in, but is usually quick-casted. Ressurect and Tree of Life are never sloted, only quick-casted.

I disagree with the k/b mouse controls in this game. Compared to games like Quake and UT the controls flat out suck. There is too much (controller delay) when moving your character or your mouse. It is as if they just remapped the controller to the k/b mouse with only the option to customize control but didnt change anything movement wise. Its as if there is a 1 sec delay for any movement you make. I have gotten used to it but it even Counterstrike has more responsive controls then this game.

I want to see if Quake Wars delievers on the controls for the PC since they are porting over to 360. I just hope ID makes it a PC game first then a console second unlike this game.

Are you using a laptop?

Are you crazy?

Kelbear, your strategies are usually mine too, although I tend to equip glider rather than teleport for level that have a lot of open area with several tiers, so that I can easily snipe from rooftops. My other favorite trick is to hit with the katana, run away through a narrow hallway, cast strangle as they come in after me, and then finish them off with the sub-machine gun as they try to get out of the strangle. You're right that gameplay is definitely the strong point in Shadowrun...the sheer number of combinations with powers and collaboration with teammates' powers keep it very very interesting.

It's a damn shame this game wasn't PC only... they could have done so much more with it.

The May NPD numbers came out for the consoles, and Shadowrun isn't even in the top 10 sold for that month - yea, it came out in very late May, but so did Forza 2 which was number six with over 200,000 copies sold. The lowest number sold, game number 10, had 131,000 units sold, so Shadowrun didn't even manage that much.

This game is going to be a graveyard by this Fall =/ Not many PC users have it and the 360ian's will have gone on to Halo 3.

Which is a shame, because I think if it was marketed properly and hit as a PC only title, it would have been, at the least, a cult favorite.

I dont use a laptop to play this game. The controls are sluggesh. It was the first thing I notice the moment I played this game. Simple fact is it was made for the console and PC was an after thought. Just hope QW isnt like this on the PC or else I will wait for some Huxley action.

Quake Wars wont be. id's main priority is PC gaming.

This is like the 501 time someone has complained of sluggish controls. But I also have 500 others saying it doesn't. Guess I have to try for myself.

After buying the PC version and spending some time with it, I too have come to the conclusion that the mouse look is a little off. It's almost as if there's a bit of latency to it, which makes it feel like your crosshair is floating in molassass. It's not very precise or responsive. Sure, on the 360 controller it takes forever to turn around... but I almost think the game was easier on the 360. That's not to say I like console fps's though. =P

I also notice it takes me much longer to get into a match on the PC than it did on the 360. It takes no less than 3 or 4 minutes to get into a match. While finding a match on the 360 was quite painless. I'm not sure why they would differ though. Also, the whole "passive" match making mechanic seems completely medieval on a PC.

And with the built-in voice chat, you have to spend the first 30 seconds of each match muting all the Live retards. It's a shame, because at it's core I think Shadowrun could be a really kickass multiplayer title. The design is there. It just suffers from some pretty serious technical flaws.

Bring on Quake Wars.

I'm starting to regret my purchase. It's a fun game, but..it takes way too damn long to get into a match(pc) I can literally make a sandwich, grab a drink, make my way back to the computer room, and if I'm lucky, it will be in the process of connecting.

On their official forums, there's at least 20 pages so far on this, which takes the fun out of the game....along with the servers crashing at random.

Until theres a patch for the pc, I can no longer recommend this game.

I purchased it. Could of waited a week longer & could of got it for free from Circuit City with the Purchase of Halo 2. That's the price it should of been =P. I gave this game a good 2 weeks of play time. I got about 40% of the achievements but couldn't take anymore of it. Game sucks so bad in my opinion. It is definitely designed with Console gamers in mind & PC gamers got slapped with a 100% console port with nothing at all adjusted to better fit the feel of a PC FPS'er. Although it was a pain to deal with the stiff movement (due to balancing) & still controls, I was pretty good. I prefer to not play PC shooter that is gimped to balance the playing field however. That alone turned me off greatly.

Odd, the long match finding times have been drastically reduced for me. After I click "Play" it takes maybe 10-20 sec to get into a game.

One nice touch I just noticed:

When a played dies, any grenades he has drop to the ground. The grenades can be shot-takes 2 hits to detonate. Makes a mean trap if you see someone clearing the body of one of your fallen team mates.

Mouse Lag, i seemed to solve most of my lag issues by turning my graphics all the way down and no shadows. I have a 7800gt c2d e6600 8 gigs of ram which is stupid. But my 7800gt was running at 113C on load and I almost fried my card luckly its a EVGA and I am awaiting a replacement. The mouse lag is still there but it definately isnt as bad before I turned everything down. I cant wait to try the QW beta after I get my card back and see how that is. Anyone up for a game my xbl tag is RedShirtTOS. Anyone else feel the katana if WAY harder on PC then a console?
