Anyone got shadowrun on PC?

I played about 4 hours on the PC version tonight, including 2 hours of online play. There is a crosshair, which comes in the form of a circle that expands and contracts with your movement and shooting. Your shots will hit anywhere inside that circle (zoomed weapons work differently though), so moving and shooting is not as accurate as standing still.

Single player bot matches are okay, but the online is definitely more fun for me.

The powers you can acquire, both magical and technical, are pretty cool and definitely change the game. All races contribute very effectively in their own ways as well, so there is a lot of diversity in the game, and your race choices will affect how a match plays a lot.

So, if I read you correctly Sphere, there is an option to only play against PC users?

I really don't want to play against 360 users at all. Does there seem to be a lot of PC users?

So how large is the discrepancy between PC and Xbox users? Is it painfully obvious while playing, or did they actually do a good job with balancing?

I'm pro-mouse myself, but I will be renting this game for the 360 today. I don't have Vista, and I'm curious to see what this game is like. So I guess I'll find out the hard way. =(

Roufuss-You don't have the *option* Live just connects you with other users, there is no place to specify pc or console opponent.

PBS- I can't tell if they are on the 360 or pc, there is nothing that stands out.

Atleast on halo2 PC, you get auto aim if you use the gamepad instead of keyboard + mouse. If a control scheme requires dumbing down aiming, what does that say about the control scheme?

I'm never a fan of auto aim, if you cant do it normally, practice more! dont rely on electronic crutches. its the same as cheating in my eyes.

Well I don't mind it auto-aim with consoles. I had it in resistance and if I didn't have it, I probably wouldn't have ever finished it. It's not that bad in that game though, it's more of a guide than an aim. There just seems to be a lot of fun console FPS's but they just ruin the game with the feeling of the joystick to me and autoaim helps the gap a little. I do agree though in online games i'd consider it kinda lame but in single player I think it should be choice.

Lame... I'm going to pass then.

What about people who don't buy a Live Anywhere Gold Membership, can they simply just not play the game then, if they can't specify PC only or PC / 360 cross platform?

The game looked interesting, but Xbox Live is a cesspool of idiocy that I thought I could break away from when I sold my 360 - I guess not.

haha. It's true.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere though that PC users will be able to specify PC-only matches.... like you said, for Silver memberships.

There was ONE time in about 3 hours of online play that I suspected I was up against a 360 user, just because of the time it was taking him to re-target me after I flanked him, but usually people did not have issues with that. At all other times I couldn't tell any real difference. However, I did tend to do really well, usually being one of the top 2 in kills on the server. So the fact I was on PC, and using a mouse and keyboard for aiming, may have helped me a little with achieving those results.

However, based on my use of the powers, I would guess that the 360 controller would be superior for certain powers... Aimed magic like Strangle and Summon are likely a tad easier to use on PC, but mobility magic and techs like Teleport and Glider seem like they would work a tad better with the 360 controller... Overall it is still pretty even, but the mobility powers are more likely to save your life, so the 360 players will have a slight advantage in that area.

So overall the balancing seems pretty even to me.

Hmmmm, interesting.

I'm kind of looking forward to playing this. That is, at least until Quake Wars comes out. =P

Yea, if there is a chance to specify PC only matches, I'll reconsider because it does look awesome. I can only imagine not having a headset on the PC would just further piss off the 360 people as well. It would seem odd if there wasn't a way to specify PC only because not everyone on the PC is going to buy Live Gold for the two games on it (and you don't even need it for Halo 2).

But like you said, I think this game will be a graveyard once Quake Wars comes out.

What also bugs me is that there will be no map making or anything, so if MS does bring out more maps, we will have to buy them off the marketplace, instead of just getting them for free.

It is a lot of fun.It has me reminiscing of the days back in the mid 90's when I'd play*MageStorm* until they damn near bled, then couple that with the original UT, and that's pretty close to what Shadowrun is.

The magic abilities are great, it becomes all about countering..if you Leroy Jenkins it, you'll be dead in no time.

Another cool feature, is that when you die, you can be resurrected...but...if someone shoots your corpse until it's *gone* then you sit the round out until the end.

For those who are curious about this game, let me just throw out some observations:

People have tried to compare this game to many others, especially Counter-Strike (CS), and I have to say it is not like any other FPS out there, though it does have elements from many of them....
Running and jumping is basically like Unreal Tournament (UT), but with the actual movement speed ranging from CS speed for the slowest race to UT speeds for the fastest (though it can get even slower if you try to have an elf run around with a Mini-Gun).
Aiming is more like CS, with an aiming circle that increases and decreases based on recoil and movement factors. Your shots will hit somewhere in the circle, but you can't say where for certain (exception being when sniping).
The number of hits it takes to kill someone is greater than either UT or CS, forcing you to actually win an engagement with good tactics almost every time, rather than being able to rely excessively on luck.
Pretty much everything else can't be compared to any other game..... Both strategically and tactically it seems pretty unique to me. Strategically choosing the wrong mix of races can make it very hard on your team for the entire game, and choosing the wrong powers early on can make the first rounds difficult. Tactically, you can not rely on anything to remain static or for a particular approach to work consistently.

For instance, in one match the opposing team had started the match by using Strangle to hold a corridor against my team while throwing grenades and using summons to damage us before we could break through. So after two rounds of that I used the Glider and Teleportation to flank them through an otherwise unreachable and impassable wall. I was then able to take out three of their team before they were able to take me out, but with three of them down their defenses faltered and my team overwhelmed them rather quickly. Of course the next round that wouldn't work because they were watching their backs, but we just changed our tactics anyway, and forced them to come to us, which they ultimately did in small groups we were able to defeat in detail.

This game really rewards working as a team and using powers and the terrain in an intelligent manner, which is something that a lot of games fail at, but it also allows the lone soldier to occasionally make all the difference, which is also something a lot of games fail at.

Also, getting Achievement points on PC = Freaking Awesome.

Arentol - Is communication just headset only, or is it keyboard as well?

I don't have a headset for the PC :(

You know, I didn't actually check the manual on that, so I am not sure... However, I never once saw written communication, so I doubt there is any option for it.

I assume you've got a headset then? How is the community so far with the game?

Any light on the ability to only play against PC users? I'd only have a Silver account, and I don't want to buy a Gold account just to play Shadowrun online.

For those who are curious about this game.........

What you posted sounds allot different from what I was gathering from the xbox forums. Its sounds a bit interesting. I was getting the feeling this was going to be another CS lookalike because of the waiting for match to be done thing(unless you get resurrected).
I am not into CS and I am more of a fantasy fps than a realistic one. Which still irks me about this game since your aim gets degraded with movement. Do you have a stamina where you can only run full speed for a certain amount of time?
I would have to get this on the 360 since I don't have vista and don't plan on getting it really soon. Which in itself is another thing that irks me since I cant stand fps' on the console.
I think I might just wait to get into this until either I hear some more on it or I decided to upgrade my video card to a dx10 version and take the vista lemmings jump. Or maybe I just wont worry about a dx10 card for now and just keep using my gtx 7800, I just don't see of point of upgrading considering everything I have played on the PC flies at full speed in my normal aspect resolution.

Interesting. I may just have to check this out even though I detest the fact they dropped the deep backstory.

I do have a headset, but I wasn't using the microphone last night because I haven't figured out how to get it working in Vista yet (keep in mind I installed Vista last night and immediately started playing, so I haven't tried to get it working yet either).

In the games I played the community was find, only a few people had chat at all, and they were just talking about tactics and such, not griefing in any way. Nobody seemed to mind that I didn't have a headset, and I didn't either except for a couple times when I really wanted to tell people stuff.

I didn't see any option to play against only PC users, but then I have a Gold account, and the PC only multiplayer is considered a LIMITATION of Silver accounts, and not a feature or option that can be turned on and off, as far as I know. So if you are using a Silver account then you are automatically playing PC only, with a Gold you are automatically playing cross platform. Of course if you have a Gold account you may be able to set up a separate Silver Gamertag and force PC only, but I don't see the point since the cross platform game is very good.

I am glad that people are enjoying this game. I will buy it after June 12th after I get my next paycheck.
Until then...I am poorZ0r.

seriously this game is fun. It kind of reminds me of a futureistic CS.

I played with friends on both PC and XBOX last night and it ran perfect.

Same here. The experience was largely flawless, and the hiccups I have had are minor and should be easily patched:
In one training, there is a bug where you cannot throw a required grenade.
Finding a game takes forever (it is XBL tho...)
infrequent losses of connection.

Otherwise I am addicted. It's like counterstrike meets pnp rpg's

Picked it up today myself and I must say I enjoy the game..Runs beautifully and looks real nice..Brings a few new elements to the FPS/Fragathon and the Live portion works pretty well..Recommended!!

Can someone please throw up a couple of screen shots from a decent computer? I'd love to see what it looks like turned right up.

There's an interview with the developer at ign.com, http://pc.ign.com/articles/793/793081p1.html

In it, it clears some confusion I had been having from reading an earlier preview. It says that i has full voice support for silver suscribers as well as gold. Also, the graphics in the pc version are identical to the 360 except no motion blur.

I still dont quite understand why they would take a graphics option OUT of the PC version. :S Seems backwards.

Well guys, I took screen shots, but I have no idea where the hell they're at. Looked through all the subdirectories and can't find them. If anyone knows where they are located let me know.

\users\you\documents\my games\ ??? or something like that.

Thas where alot of my games files have ended up in vista.

Anyone know if there is anyway to adjust the mouse speed better? I have it set at 100/100 and it still lags (feels like controller delay)

If i play tonight i'll take some screens for you guys. I'm loving the game so far, only a few problems. I can't tell if my mic works in game, it doesn't give me any icon or anything to tell me that i'm talking so i dunno if it's working or not. Nobody has really talked much in the games i've been in to tell me if it's working. The XBL matchmaking is super slow but they are working on a hotfix for it they said on the shadowrun forums. There are only a few dedicated servers and it seems like there are always a few full and a few empty but usually never a chance to join one with a slot open, hopefully some clans get into the game and start up servers and stuff.

Main thing though, i have noticed nothing like what people kept saying about slow mouse scrolling, limited resolutions, or other console / pc evening measures. The game looks beautiful and runs super smooth. I'm excited for more people to pick up the game, it's a really fun game so far.

Does anyone know if you can make custom maps for shadowrun?

I will do nothing to support the corporate villainy of restricting DX10 and any subsequent games not strong enough to resist MS's influence to Vista-only playability. I applaud games like Vanguard which reside above the influence.

I use to play Shadowrun, the pnp version... quite fun rolling so many god damn dice and having real weapons to filter out the DnD-lubbin powergamer hating zealots who call it imagination but chose to restrict themselves to tolkenian fantasy like monks hanging themselves with celibate ropes...

In any case... i will rezist the Vista onslaught till the bitter end and have my fill of piss and vinegar...

I picked this game up on Friday and played it all damn weekend :)

There are afew quarks with this game, the most detrimental is the SLOW ass search for Live servers. It can take 5+ minutes to find a game. The devs are working on it though.

My other issues are really just nit-picks. There should be an audible que to inform you when you are the last team member alive. The dwarf bonus of awareness (unable to be backstabed) isn't working. Gust should launch you higher when used as a"Rocket-Jump". 10% of XBox Live members never STFU.

Bottom line is that this game is FUN. I really enjoy the tactics involved. I can see playing this for quite awhile.

dude... take a chill pill.

The game is pretty fun, but I don't see myself putting hundreds of hours into it like I did for the battlefield series, cs, and quake.

wtf is up with the Hforums going so slow?? It took me like 5 mins to open up this page. Anyways, here's a few pics i just snapped on my lunchbreak, dont' have time now but will upload like 20 more when i get back home tonight.

I bought this game the end of last week and it's a blast to play. I haven't been hooked on a multiplayer game since dod 1.3. (It's been a while). I love games that focus on teamwork and this is definitely one of them. Right now circuit city has it for 37.99 with Flight Sim X for free. Easily a great buy at that price.
