OK, I am running into a wierd problem. Windows XP MCE doesnt seem to want to boot every time, it just hangs. It does not appear to be a hardware lock, just Windows just doesnt boot. If it happens and I hit reboot, sometimes it will come up, somtimes not.

I just put together a new system.

Athlon 64 3200+
Asus A8N-SLI (std. ed.)
2GB GEIL DDR400 RAM
XFX 7800GT
Seagate 160GB SATA 3.0gps HD
430W PS

I just swapped out the SATA cable thinking maybe that has gone bad? or possibly a bad SATA port? Anyone ever had anything like that happen, or have any feedback on what this could be other than just a bad windows install ??

I havent resorted to reinstalling yet, but I'm pretty damn close.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
 
Are you saying that it doesn't post sometimes or does it POST everytime and doesn't make it through loading windows.

The last thing I woul expect is a bad port if it works every time, intermitten problems is usually software 9 times out of 10. Especially if it POSTs everyitme and it is recognized in the BIOS consistenty
 
Ugh, sorry, I ment Athlon 64, wrote that when I was tired last night.

The PC Posts everytime, It just hangs at loading Windows.

I think I figured it out, after loading the Nvidia Drivers, there is the Nvidia Software for controlling the hard drive. THat seems to be the thing breaking my install.

Anyone seen that before?
 
A lot of people warn of installing NV's IDE driver. As I have experienced that issue myself, I would say the same thing. I would recommend you to avoid that and use Microsoft's driver or Asus' own motherboard SATA RAID driver.
