I was thinking of putting the r120 in the freezer for 3 hours and then taking it out and reattaching it back onto the mainboard. Worst case scenario being the r120 dies out from condensation? Anyways would freezing the water then attaching it back onto the cpu be a good thing or would it just get back down to ambient temps eventually anyways?

If your coolant is cold enough (as in enough below your ambient temp) you'll end up with condensation which we all know would not be good for whatever it drips onto. Sub-ambient temp setups should have insulated tubing to prevent condensation (water chiller, tec, phase, etc).

Freezing H20 does not make for good flow....

NOT TO ICE! Well parts of it would be ice and it would melt in a matter of a minute anyways.

also I just tried this and it gave me 17C and then after a few seconds it started jumping up to low 20s then high 20s then eventually back to 38c.

Oh wells! Any other ideas? Maybe using actual ice cubes instead of a block :D

might give for some awesome temps! Below freezing maybe LOL.

if only man kind could build a decent WC system that would allow for below ambient without breaking the bank. Im sure one day we can also find a way to get to the moon....oh wait   .

Alaska, here i come

this water chiller you speak of, is it hard to put together? Any tuturiols on it being done before?

Yes, it's hard. I'm doing one this summer if I get the chance...

I'll be brazing my evaporator cap directly onto an inline copper manifold, insulating it and encasing everything in an oxygen-less plexiglass tank...

I shouldn't have to worry about condensation then.

Look around the forums for bitchbreaker as he builds this kind of stuff for people around here.

mmmm ...get yourself a small fridge , drill 2 holes for the tubing and place the rad in the freezer . Should work for temp below ambient . ;)

Yeah, for about 2 hours till the fridge burns out ;)

Oranges and banannas don't generate heat. A computer does. Nuff said.

...get an old fridge and see what happens , i remember to have it seen once in a threat somebody cooling his rad with a fridge , but cant actually remember where :( , guess im getting old .

Yes, you are.... I mean who was threaTening whom with a cooling rad? :D

You do this the oldschool way and just use salt to lower the freezing temperature of the water.

Like old fashioned ice cream!
